Call the Midwife makes announcement to viewers – amid fan-favourite character’s exit

Call the Midwife announced to fans on social media about her availability overseas.

The beloved period drama, which airs on the BBC, revealed on its official Instagram account that season 12 has finally arrived on Netflix for those looking to watch in the US.

Posting an official photo featuring show stars Helen George, Megan Cusack and Linda Bassett, the show’s bosses wrote: “Hello US fans! Just to let you know Netflix US has now streamed Call the Midwife season 12 for your enjoyment viewings ! Enjoy!! Call the Midwife returns with a new Christmas special and 13th season in 2024 xx.”

This announcement comes amid news that a beloved cast member is leaving the series. Olly Rix, who plays Matthew Aylward in the drama series, is said to have written the script, however the reasons why have not been released.

News of the actor’s departure may come as a surprise to fans after Olly’s on-screen persona, Matthew, made frequent appearances in the Season 12 finale when he married nurse Trixie Franklin, played by Helen George.

Meanwhile, the cast and crew are back in production filming the 13th series Call the midwife. Filming is due to finish in November before the festive episode airs on Christmas Day, with new episodes arriving on BBC One in January.

Some cast members were recently spotted enjoying a night out while attending the National Television Awards last week. Some of the fan-favorite stars from the series walked the red carpet and spoke with HELLO! about what it was like to be back on set.

Jenny Agutter, who was joined by Stephen McGann, Laura Main, Daniel Laurie, Heidi Thomas and Rebecca Gethings at the glitzy event, teased what’s to come in the new series: “There’s a lot of babies being born and we’re dealing with it “, she explained. “Now we’re halfway through the year and we’re in 1969, so these are interesting times.”

After starring in the BBC drama for 11 years, she now considers them more like “family”. She told HELLO!: “It’s like coming back to a family you’ve been away from for a while and then it feels like you weren’t away at all. It’s a very warm feeling. It’s a wonderful group of people.”

The cast returned to set after their summer break and told fans they were returning to filming after the awards night. “For many of tonight’s revelers, it’s straight back to work in the morning! Series 13 is moving along at breakneck speed, and those babies aren’t going to deliver themselves,” they wrote on social media.
