The Call The Midwoman cast and crew are currently in production on the show’s 13th season, but one star was noticeably absent on Thursday. Taking to Instagram, the BBC drama’s official Instagram account revealed that Stephen McGann has taken a break from filming, but there is a very special reason for his absence.
To fans’ relief, the actor was left stranded, but instead of filming as Dr Turner, the 60-year-old took on the role of a tour guide. It turns out that Stephen was tasked with taking the young stars of Project 21 on a guided tour of the Nonnatus home, and it turned out to be a huge success.
Post a photo from the day Stephen hangs out with their guests, call midwife The Instagram account explains: “We had some very special guests join us on set yesterday. We are delighted to invite members of the Project 21 theater team to tour the film. our school, meet some of our team members and watch the filming of series 13!

“But the tour takes a special twist, as the guide turns out to be none other than Dr Turner, our very own actor Stephen McGann!”

The headline continues: “Project 21 is a charity that runs innovative activities, clubs and events for people with Down syndrome in the East of England. Stephen and producer Annie Tricklebank met the members of the group at the beginning of the year and invited them to visit. Yesterday Stephen was delighted to introduce all these young artists.”
In a statement about the visit, Stephen said: “I had the most AMAZING day out with these young people! Their energy, joy and curiosity was absolutely contagious – we all went having a great time together. I can’t wait to see them all again. Also, the Project 21 kids they are officially the best in the world at collective hugs!!”

Causing a strong reaction from fans, many were quick to comment on the touching footage. “As the mother of a son with Down syndrome and a huge fan of the show…this is great,” one person replied.
“Beautiful! One more reason to love your show! Thanks for all you do,” added another. Meanwhile, a third wrote: “So beautiful! This is so special and meaningful. This is my favorite show ever!”

While Stephen took a break from filming call the midwifelooks to be returning with this year’s Christmas special, plus season 13, which is slated to air in 2024. Filming for new episodes began in early May and has been since. There, the show shared updates on Instagram.
Recently, call midwife released a behind-the-scenes video of the upcoming Christmas special, which will be heartwarming. It shows Turner’s three youngest children, Angela, Teddy and May, playing in the snow.
