Cameron Diaz and Benji Madden's 2 Kids: All About Raddix and Cardinal

Cameron Diaz and Benji Madden are happily growing their family.

After Bad Teacher actress and guitarist Good Charlotte married in 2015, welcomed their first child, Raddix, in December 2019. In March 2024, they announced the birth of their second baby and first son, Cardinal. The news surprised fans, who didn’t know the couple was expecting.

“We feel so blessed and grateful 🍀Sending lots of love from our family to yours 🙏❤️,” Diaz and Madden wrote in a joint Instagram post announcing the cardinal’s birth.

Since welcoming Raddix, Diaz has been open about how being a mom is “the best part” of her life.

“I love being a mother. It’s the best, best, best part of my life,” she said on Instagram Live with her friend and Who What Wear director Katherine Power in 2020. “I’m so, so grateful and so happy and it’s the best thing ever and I’m so happy that I can do that with Benji and we just have the best time. It’s so great. I’m really delighted.”

Diaz and Madden’s daughter, Raddix, was born on December 30, 2019, at Cedar’s Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. They announced her birth on Instagram, writing that they will not be posting photos of their daughter to protect her privacy.

“Happy New Year from Maddens!” they wrote. “We are so happy, blessed and grateful to begin this new decade by announcing the birth of our daughter, Raddix Madden. She immediately captured our hearts and completed our family.”

Shortly after welcoming Raddix, a source told PEOPLE that the couple is in “baby bliss,” enjoying time with their newborn.

“They waited so long to have a baby, so now they’re just enjoying their daughter,” the source said. “They are still in baby bliss and the happiest of parents. They take turns with the baby and don’t really leave the house together.”

When her daughter was 6 months old, Diaz shared how she was growing and changing quickly while appearing on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.

“Literally every day there are spikes and things like that. She is not the same baby she was yesterday,” he said Another woman said the actress. “Where was he yesterday? Yesterday is literally gone and today is a new day and tomorrow will be a new day that she is a completely different baby. But it’s a great pleasure to actually see that growth and be a part of it.”

Diaz was 47 years old when she received Raddix and spoke openly about the difficulties of having a child in her 40s.

“Women who have children my age are literally 20 years younger and it’s an interesting place because I’m not that age,” she said during a March 2022 interview with BBC Radio 2’s Michelle Visage. “And that’s perfectly fine. But I want to feel so vital to my child.”

She touched on the pressures of being an aging mom in an interview with Naomi Campbell in October 2020, joking that she plans to live past 100 so she can be with her children.

“When you’re my age and you decide to do it, it’s the right choice,” she said. “You really have to work for it. The only pressure for me is that I have to live to be, like, 107 years old, you know? So no pressure!”

On March 22, 2024, Diaz and Madden announced the birth of their son, Cardinal, with an abstract drawing on Instagram that read, “A little birdie whispered to me.” Like his sister, the couple chose to keep photos of the cardinal private.

“We are blessed and excited to announce the birth of our son, Cardinal Madden❤️🙏,” they wrote on Instagram. “He’s great and we’re all so happy he’s here! For the safety and privacy of the kids, we won’t post any pictures – but he’s really cute ☺️.”

After the announcement, a source told PEOPLE that Diaz and Madden were “overjoyed” to welcome their second child.

“They always hoped for another child because they love being parents,” the insider said.

“For years, Cameron wanted to be a mom,” they added. “She gets very emotional when she talks about the long road to motherhood. She feels more than happy to have two children now.”

The next day, the couple attended Rob Lowe’s 60th birthday party. A source told PEOPLE that while they had a fun night, they usually prefer to keep things low-key with their family.

“They like to spend time at home. They prefer to cook and visit friends instead of going out,” the insider said. “And they love just hanging out with their kids. They’re great parents.”
