Camila Cabello Reveals Why She Carried a Melting Block of Ice as a 'Purse' to the 2024 Met Gala

Camila Cabello wasn’t an ice queen on the Met Gala 2024 red carpet, but her purse definitely lived up to it!

Among the avant-garde looks that took the Metropolitan Museum of Art by storm on May 6 was the “I Luv It” singer’s ice accessory, which was literally a melting piece of ice that contained a single copper rose. According to Voguethe flower resembled the one from the Met Gala invitation.

While talking to Extra, Cabello, 27, said her custom Jane Wade clutch — which was originally meant to be a purse (probably the one with straps) until it broke — was how she interpreted the dress code of “The Garden of Time” and “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion” theme.

“I feel like it’s transience and things decay over time and that’s the beauty of it,” she told the outlet about what inspired her to carry such a slippery accessory.

She also noticed that there were tears in her dress by Ludovico de Saint Sernin, which Vogue the discovery weighed 15 kilograms and was decorated with 250,000 Swarovski crystals, the same message was translated. Even her iridescent makeup and “wet” ponytail, created by Sophia Sinot using L’Orèal Paris products, was meant to highlight “the beauty of impermanence,” according to a press release. Over the course of the night, the former Fifth Harmony member was repeatedly asked by multiple media outlets about the addition.

When Diversity informed of Doje Cat’s equally wet dress, Cabello cheekily responded, “The girls are wet tonight—sorry.” And in conversation with The Hollywood Reporterr, said it represents her upcoming album, which she said is themed “Miami, melting and heat.”

Cabello wasn’t the only one on the carpet dedicated to channeling the natural elements.

As expected, many guests showed up in floral ensembles, including co-chairs Jennifer Lopez and Zendaya, the latter of whom changed into an oversized 1996 Givenchy floral headpiece upon her arrival. Tyla, who is most popular for her song “Water”, replicated the desert in a Balmain dress that gave off the illusion of sculpted sand. Then there was Gabrielle Union, who made waves in a mermaid-inspired dress from the Michael Kors collection.
