Campbell Wilson was born in 1971 in Christchurch, New Zealand (50 years old in 2021). He was acquired in the same city. In 1990, he went to the University of Canterbury in Christchurch, New Zealand, to study for a Master of Commerce (Hons) in Business Administration, completing his studies in 1994. In 2011, he took over as CEO of Scoot, a low-cost airline part of the Singapore Airlines Group.

Thereafter, he served as SIA’s Senior Vice President Sales and Marketing, responsible for pricing, distribution, merchandising, e-commerce, global sales and branding, as well as the marketing department for SIA’s overseas offices. In April 2020, he returned to China to serve as airline CEO. In May 2022, he resigned from Scoot again and was appointed by the board of directors as CEO of Air India. The Tata Sons board had appointed former Turkish Airlines chairman Ilker Ayci as Air India’s new CEO, but he turned down the offer a few weeks later, after which the opportunity passed to Campbell Campbell Wilson.

Campbell was appointed as Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Air India on May 12, 2022. Commenting on the decision, Mr. N Chandrasekaran, Chairman of Tata Sons, said:
