Biography of Carl Reiner

Carl Reiner was born into the family of watchmakers Irving and Bessie Reiner. His parents were Jewish immigrants from Poland. His father was born in Austria and his mother in Romania. Charlie, his older brother, served in World War II and is buried at Arlington National Cemetery. When Charlie was 16, he read in the New York Daily News about a free drama workshop organized by the Works Progress Administration. He then informed Carl. His uncle Harry Mathias was the first comedian in the family. He previously worked as a machinist, repairing sewing machines.

Reiner has appeared in several Broadway musicals, including the title role in Call Me Mister. According to Reiner, the act gave Brooks “an identity as a comic performer for the first time.”

He appeared as a clinic patient in the season finale of House in May 2009. Reiner previously voiced Santa Claus in Merry Madagascar and also appeared in the Penguins of Madagascar episode “The All Nighter Before Christmas”. In December 2009, he returned to Two and a Half Men as television producer Marty Pepper.
