Beth Broderick and Caroline Rhea are still connected in a festive way since their time together Sabrina the teenage witch.
In a recent interview with PEOPLE, the two friends and colleagues reveal that they share the same holiday highlight from the series: American pop singer Johnny Mathis guest stars in the Season 2 episode “Sabrina Claus.”
Rhea, who played Aunt Hilda on the show from 1996-2003, says it was “such a privilege” to have Mathis sing Christmas carols to her, Broderick and Melissa Joan Hart, who played Sabrina.
“In the meantime, he was singing for us,” Rhea tells PEOPLE. “And you know, it’s Johnny Mathis.”
Broderick, who played Aunt Zelda in the hit series, echoes that admiration.
“It just doesn’t get any better than that in my book,” she says. “We were both just dying, just passing out, and he was just a legend and he was a legend to my mom and my dad. . . It was really touching for us that he was there.”

Broderick, 65, and Rhea, 60, just reunited for their new Hallmark Channel movie Holiday mismatch. It stars two moms who accidentally install a dating app on their adult children. “Determined to stop the romance, the two mothers team up, only to realize they have more in common than they thought,” says the official synopsis. “As their children’s love blossoms, so does an unexpected friendship between their meddling moms.”
Broderick, who has made 11 Christmas movies including this month Merry gentlemen on Netflix described making a holiday movie as a “joyful experience” and says it’s “impossible for anyone to be unhappy making a Christmas movie.” During recording Holiday mismatchshe recalls laughing with Rhea every day, noting their comedic chemistry in one scene where the two make turkey sandwiches.
“We both made each other laugh multiple times while filming that scene where we were both improvising and doing what we do together,” says Broderick.
Rhea has similar mixed feelings about making Christmas movies. She says her favorite part of the genre is the “outcome.”

“I like happy endings. I know. I like movies that you can watch with the whole family,” she says. “I think that was the best part Sabrina. You could leave your child in front of the television to watch a show and there was nothing going on in that show that was scary, it was just kind of joyful.”
She continues: “The greatest gift of Sabrina is that it’s like generational entertainment because now we have a fourth generation of kids watching that show.”
While she has “a gazillion favorite” moments from the long-running series, Rhea recalls that the Halloween episodes were just as festive for the cast, including one fateful episode in Season 2 called “A River of Candy Runs Through It.”
“I swear to you, I haven’t eaten sweet corn in like 15 years,” Rhea tells PEOPLE. “Because if I wrote a book about show business, I always said that I would call it I ate all my prop food.”
