In a recent interview for Harper’s Bazaar, The actress revealed that there were more scenes in the episode 3 in which Kate (Leslie Bibb) danced around the topic of President Donald Trump after her girlfriends Laurie (Coon) and Jaclyn (Michelle Monaghan) questioned her life in Texas.
The conversation caused mixed viewers’ reactions, and Coon said there was a part of Laurie’s story that came deeper into the current political climate.
“You originally learned that her daughter was actually not as little, maybe a trance and passed them,” she told the socket. “You see Laurie struggling to explain it to his friends, fighting to use their excuses, struggling with the language, which was all interesting.”

The scene, although “short”, added another layer of tension to the more clumsy dynamics among the trio, Coon explained.
“For me, she asked me if Kate voted for Trump so provocative and personally offensive to Laura, given who her child was in the world,” she said, noting that the creator of Mike White eventually decided not to include him after Trump was re -elected.
“The season was written before the election, as the way Trump’s administration armed the cultural war against transgender people even more, when it was time for the episode to reduce, Mike felt that the scene was so small and the topic was so big that it was not the right way to get involved in that conversation,” she said.

She added that White always ensures that he creates characters so that “not just one”, and that comes from his upbringing.
“His father wrote a very influential book about what it was like to look like a gay man in the Evangelical Church as an adult, which a lot of young men read and was a very meaningful text for them on his travels,” Coon said. “So, Mike does not relieve the challenge of cultural conversations, and I really appreciate it about his work.”

Episode 2. March showed ladies who questioned Kate, saying she spent a lot of time in her church in Texas. When Jaclyn marked them with “biblical blows” who “voted for Trump”, Kate defended them as “beautiful people,” which led Laura to ask if she became awkward when politics appeared.
“Why would that?” Kate wondered, sharing that her husband was a Republican and was independent.
When asked if she voted for Trump, Kate let go of the sigh and said, “Shall we really talk about Trump tonight? It’s a very beautiful church. It’s not strange at all.”
Bibb opened about the scene in an interview Fun Weekly Earlier this month, saying that she felt like white “she had a two -way into the future because when we did it, he just didn’t feel it [timely anymore]. ”
