Carrie Symonds is a British political activist and environmentalist. She is the wife of British Prime Minister Boris Johnson.

From September 2010 to February 2011, she was Campaign and Marketing Director for Zac Goldsmith at the Richmond Park Conservative Association. From December 2011 to May 2012, she was Political Press Officer for the Support Boris 2012 campaign. In January 2011, she became Conservative Political Press Advisor at Conservative Campaign Headquarters. In June 2013, she was appointed Director of Broadcasting for the Conservative Party, leaving the position in 2015. As a Media Director, she worked for Conservative MPs Sajid Javid (July 2016 – May 2017) and John Whittingdale (May 2015 – July 2016). In the 2017 General Election, she was Campaign Director for Zac Goldsmith. In June 2017, she was appointed Director of Communications for the Conservative Party. She resigned from the position later in 2018.

In April 2020, she called for wet markets to be closed. She even persuaded British supermarkets to stop selling coconut products made in Thailand using “slave labor” from monkeys. For years, she has worked hard to publicize the threat of plastic pollution to all kinds of marine life.

- In 2007, 19-year-old Carrie was taking a taxi home from a nightclub on Kings Road. The taxi driver was John Worboys, who was convicted of serial rape in 2009. According to Carrie, John poured her champagne spiked with alcohol, but she refused to drink it. John then poured her vodka, which she drank. She returned home and vomited and laughed, then passed out, waking up at 3pm the next day. In 2009, she and 13 other women testified against John at his trial. She was John Worboys’ youngest victim and waived her anonymity. Speaking about this in an interview, she said:
A deplorable, evil man who is a danger to society. I am furious that he has pleaded not guilty and put us through the ordeal of testifying in court.”
She began campaigning against John after he was released in early 2018 and raised funds for a successful judicial review. Her efforts were successful and John was jailed again.
- In 2018, Kelly resigned from her position as the Conservative Party’s communications director. She was reportedly asked to leave by the party leader due to her poor performance. There were also rumors that she mishandled the situation. However, these rumors were refuted by party staff.
- In June 2019, Carrie and Boris Johnson had a heated argument, which was recorded by one of their neighbors in Carrie’s South London apartment. Concerned for the woman’s safety, the neighbors called the police on the spot. Police said no crime had occurred that required police action. However, the recording made headlines, in which Carrie and Boris screamed, shouted and banged things. It also called their strained relationship into question. The couple believed it was just a love dispute.
- In August 2019, Carrie applied for a visa to travel to the United States for a few days for work, but US authorities blocked her application on the grounds that she would visit Somaliland in the Horn of Africa for five days.

- Concerns about her influence on the prime minister arose in January 2020 when she received a briefing from the Badger Trust weeks before the government cancelled a badger cull in Derbyshire. The National Farmers’ Union (NFU), which represents farmers, claims that it was because of her that the government ignored scientific advice and went ahead with the cull. The government has granted a judicial review to examine how the decision was made, The Guardian reported.

- She enjoys bird watching, an interest she became interested in after visiting a puffin colony in Bempton, East Yorkshire, and in her spare time she enjoys watching films, television and dancing.

- Initially, she wanted to be an actress and auditioned for the romantic war drama Atonement in 2007. After she failed, she realized that acting was not for her and turned to communications.
- After Boris Johnson became British Prime Minister, he moved into 10 Downing Street with his wife Carrie, becoming the first unmarried couple to live in the Prime Minister’s residence. Carrie was therefore given the title of “First Girlfriend”.
