The wife of Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, Casey DeSantis, responded cheekily to rumours that her husband would soon begin his 2024 campaign. According to reports, Mr DeSantis and Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla and owner of the platform, will both announce their campaigns on Twitter on Wednesday.
The Sunshine State’s first lady tweeted: “Big if true…” along with a smiley face emoji on Tuesday in response to a Fox News report on the news. A few hours later, Ms. DeSantis dispelled any confusion by launching her husband’s campaign for him with a kickoff video, which was the final straw for voters.
In the 30-second film, Mr. DeSantis seems to enter the stage and take a position in front of a big American flag as dramatic music plays in the distance. Although he is silent in the clip, a British-accented narrator declares that America is “worth the fight.”
“They call it faith because you can imagine that better future even though everything around you is bleak. an assurance that our best days were still to come,” the narrator sits. But is the battle worthwhile? Am I courageous enough? Is the effort worthwhile? Every time, America has been worthwhile. An invitation to text “Launch” to a number appears at the end of the video.
“America is worth the fight… Every. Single. Time,” Ms. DeSantis wrote as the video’s caption. Since flying to hold informally organised campaigns in the early primary states, Mr. DeSantis has been generally anticipated to enter the race.
On Wednesday at 6 p.m. ET, the governor is scheduled to make the news at an online discussion with Elon Musk that will be chaired by controversial businessman David Sacks. He must also submit the necessary paperwork to the Federal Election Commission. At 8:00 p.m., he will then appear on Fox News.
The front-runner for the GOP nomination, former President Donald Trump, is anticipated to face the strongest competition from Mr. DeSantis.
An advisor to Mr. Trump told Fox News that “announcing on Twitter is perfect for Ron DeSantis” because “this way he doesn’t have to interact with people and the media can’t ask him any questions”.
It is believed that Mr. DeSantis’ lack of charisma and his inability to establish a personal connection with people are among of his biggest shortcomings when compared to the former president, who is over 30 years his senior.
The news was made as Mr. DeSantis was meeting with donors this week in Miami. Tech entrepreneur and consultant to the governor David Sacks, a supporter of the governor, will moderate the Twitter Spaces event on Wednesday.
