Cassie’s Husband Alex Fine ‘Has Had Her Back’ as She Files Lawsuit Against Ex Diddy: Source (Exclusive)

Cassie has a supportive husband, Alex Fine.

According to documents obtained by PEOPLE, the R&B star filed a lawsuit against her ex-boyfriend Sean “Diddy” Combs on Thursday, alleging the music mogul kept her stuck in a decade-long “cycle of abuse, violence and sex trafficking” that included a 2018 rape. after she tried to leave him and several cases of domestic violence.

In a statement to PEOPLE, Combs’ attorney Ben Brafman denied all the allegations, which he called “offensive and outrageous.”

Cassie (whose real name is Casandra Ventura) began dating actor and personal trainer Fine in 2018, and they married the following year. Since getting into the relationship, a source tells PEOPLE, “He’s babysat her many times.”

According to the lawsuit filed in New York, the “Me & U” singer met Combs in 2005, when she was 19 and he was 37, and signed to his Bad Boy Records label in 2006.

Ventura had a boyfriend at the time, and Combs was publicly dating Kim Porter, but he reportedly continued his relationship with Ventura until she agreed to go out with him in September 2007, fearing retribution if she turned him down.

“When [Ventura and Combs] was dating, she was very young and trying to break into the music industry. He was a force. They had a big age difference, and she put up with everything,” says the insider. “She was looking for a way out for years and didn’t know how to get out of the relationship.”

Fine was Combs’ personal trainer when he met Ventura, whom he soon began training. – They agreed, and she started to open up to him – says the source. “Alex wanted to be with Cassie.”

After Ventura decided to end the romance in 2017, according to the lawsuit, she met him for dinner in September 2018 in Malibu to discuss ending things for good. After dinner, he allegedly forced his way into her home and raped her.

Combs dated Porter from 1994 to 2007, during which time they had three children: son Christian, 25, and twin daughters D’Lila and Jessie, 17. Porter died unexpectedly of lobar pneumonia in November 2018, and Combs was no longer romantically involved with Ventura at the time, the source says, “Cassie came back to be there for him and help him through it.”

“They’re not back in a romantic sense, but they’ve put on a united front,” the insider continues.

Diddy thanked Cassie for her support during his Lifetime Achievement Award speech at the 2022 BET Awards in June, saying, “Cassie, for holding me down in the dark times. Love.”

“They shared an unconventional consensual relationship,” another source claims. – They loved each other very much for many years.

Since settling into their current relationship and tying the knot in 2019, Ventura and Fine have built a “tight-knit family” with daughters Frankie Stone, 3½, and Sunny Cinco, 2½, the source says.

“They’ve created a little bit of a life for themselves outside of all that Hollywood stuff,” the insider continues, noting that Ventura “used to go to a lot of events, but now it’s not their thing anymore.”

Of Ventura and Fine, the source adds, “They’re really hands-on parents. She’s a really, really good mom. They hit it off really fast when they got together and got really serious pretty quickly.”

After Ventura’s lawsuit against Combs was filed, Brafman continued in a statement to PEOPLE, “Ms. Ventura’s demand for $30 million, under the threat of writing a damaging book about their relationship, was unequivocally rejected as blatant blackmail. Despite withdrawing her initial threat , Ms. Ventura has now resorted to filing a lawsuit riddled with baseless and outrageous lies, aimed at defaming Mr. Combs, and seeking back pay.”

In response, Ventura’s attorney, Douglas Wigdor, said in a statement: “Mr. Combs offered Ms. Ventura eight figures to shut her up and prevent this lawsuit from being filed. She rejected his efforts and decided to give a voice to all the women who suffer in silence. Miss Ventura is to be applauded for her courage.”
