Cat Stevens News
On June 16, Yusuf (also known as Cat Stevens) will finally release King of a Land, the new album he’s been working on for the most of the last ten years. The musician revealed the music video for the album’s lead single “Take The World Apart” on Wednesday in advance of its release.
In a statement, Yusuf remarked, “Looking at the jagged journey of my music, beginning as I did in the 60s, I would say this new record is a mosaic.” “A very precise description of who I am and where I have been.”
According to what he told Rolling Stone, the central theme of the entire album is peace. The singer-songwriter declared, “Peace is my first stop and it’s my last stop.” “So many of my songs serve as metaphors for the quest for a place or station in the spiritual realm where we might be free from conflict. There are both internal and external aspects to peace, which is an all-encompassing state of being.
Although the absence of worldly needs offers some measure of calm, material possessions cannot bring about the internal condition. The heart serves as a gauge for the inner self. Many people refer to an absence of inner calm as “mental stress,” yet the cause of this illness is a heart that has drifted from its spiritual home.
Paul Samwell-Smith, a former Yardbirds bassist, produced King of a Land, Yusuf’s first album since 2014’s Tell ‘Em I’m Gone which has brand-new original songs. The bassist and the singer-songwriter have been performing together since 1970’s Mona Bone Jakon. At Berlin’s Hansa Studios, where David Bowie cut “Heroes” and U2 cut Achtung Baby, sessions started in 2011.
They eventually relocated to Yusuf’s personal studio in Dubai, ICP Studios in Brussels, Belgium, La Fabrique in Provence, France, and other locations. At Friar Park, George Harrison’s former English estate, the new record was mixed.
We had the distinct honour of being one of the first non-insiders to visit that control room and mix an album when we were in Friar Park, according to Yusuf.
“From the very beginning, George Harrison has had a huge spiritual impact on me. It was crucial that he pioneered some concepts and views that reached far east,” he continued. You may hear George’s spirit in a few of the tracks on this CD, according to the author. In February, Yusuf performed a performance of the Beatles’ Abbey Road anthem “Here Comes the Sun” in honour of George Harrison, who would have turned 80 that month.
