Cate Blanchett’s upcoming psychological thriller Waiver it causes a lot of drama.
The Apple TV+ limited series starring Blanchett, 55, and Kevin Kline, 76, is full of moments of high tension and surprise, as seen in a new teaser trailer released Wednesday, Aug. 7 — which also showcases director Alfonso Cuarón’s art style.
The teaser briefly shows a few moments from the limited series as Blanchett can be heard telling the audience, “Beware of narrative and form. Their power can bring us closer to the truth.”
Scenes including a close-up of Blanchett at dinner and Kline standing in the distance as the rain falls flash across the screen between the words “Disclaimer” in bold white letters. Additional clips shown include Baron Cohen’s Sasha frantically running through a hallway, Louis Patridge watching a woman undress, Blanchett nearly being run over by a car, and Kodi Smit-McPhee punching a wall.

“But because of our deeply held beliefs and the judgments we make, they can also be weapons with great manipulation power. Ladies and gentlemen, be aware,” Blanchett could be heard saying as the final scene showed a man and woman holding hands as they stand in the ocean as waves crash into them.
Two teaser posters have also been released, showing Blanchett and Kline staring intently at the camera inside a star sign on a white background.
The seven-part limited series — based on Renée Knight’s best-selling book of the same name and written and directed by Cuarón — spotlights acclaimed journalist Catherine Ravenscroft (played by Blanchett) who “built her reputation by exposing the misdeeds and transgressions of others,” according to in the synopsis.
However, when she “receives a novel from an unknown author, she is horrified to realize that she is now the main character in a story that exposes her darkest secrets”, and therefore “races to discover the writer’s true identity”.

As she does, she is “forced to confront her past before it destroys her own life and her relationships with her husband Robert (played by Baron Cohen) and their son Nicholas (played by Smit-McPhee), according to the synopsis.
Waiver also the stars Crownis Lesley Manville, Deadly engines‘ Leila George and Squid games‘ Hoyeon and includes narration by actress Indira Varma.

Blanchett serves as executive producer for the limited series produced by Esperanto Filmoj and Anonymous Content, alongside Cuarón, David Levine, the late Steve Golin, Emmanuel Lubezki, Donald Sabourin and Carlos Morales. Knight, who wrote the story on which the series is based, is also a co-executive producer.
Billie Eilish’s brother, Finneas O’Connell — with whom he experienced success Barbie and No time to die — composed the score.
The first two episodes Waiver debuts Friday, October 11th on Apple TV+, with additional episodes released each week until November 15th.
