Cecilia Vega, an ABC News weekend anchor and White House correspondent, will now work for the CBS news programme “60 Minutes.”
The legendary franchise, which is the most viewed news programme on television, revealed on Thursday that Vega will serve as a reporter. Full-time openings on “60 Minutes” are uncommon and continue to be the most sought-after jobs in the TV news industry.
In a statement, Vega stated, “This is a dream come true. “It is an absolute honour for me to be a part of this illustrious programme and to collaborate with the top journalists in the business.” Vega will join the show as the first Latina correspondent in its 55-year history.
With an average of 9.6 million viewers, “60 Minutes” has 17 times during the 2022–2023 TV season placed in the top 10 in the weekly Nielsen ratings. Vega, 46, also served as the Saturday edition’s anchor of “ABC World News” in addition to her responsibilities as a White House reporter. She will continue to call Washington home.
Vega, a seasoned political journalist, was in charge of ABC’s coverage of Hillary Clinton’s 2016 campaign. Vega was a key figure in ABC News’ coverage of the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2016 and 2020 presidential elections, and both.
Vega, a San Francisco native, worked as a reporter for KGO, the ABC affiliate there. She began her career as a print journalist and most recently held a position at the San Francisco Chronicle.
