Céline Dion Brings Her Stylist Out of Retirement for Glam Grammys Moment amid Stiff Person Syndrome Diagnosis

Céline Dion made a rare public appearance at the 2024 Grammy Awards on Sunday night, looking as glamorous as ever.

The five-time Grammy winner, who has taken time out of the spotlight since being diagnosed with the rare and incurable neurological disorder Stiff Person Syndrome (SPS) in 2022, dominated the stage – and received a standing ovation – as she introduced Taylor Swift’s album of the year.

The icon wore an elegant baby pink floor-length dress with a pleated bodice. She added a striking necklace and diamond bracelet. She completed the look with a long caramel coat and smooth hair.

“Thank you all, I love you right away. You look beautiful,” she shared on stage, adding, “When I say I’m happy to be here, I really mean it from my heart.”

The ‘My Heart Will Go On’ singer, 55, took to the stage in a glittering ensemble styled by image architect Law Roach, who specifically came out of “retirement” to style Dion after he suddenly announced his retirement from celebrity styling in March 2022.

Roach, who has also styled Zendaya and Megan Thee Stallion, took to Instagram with a snap of a name tag that read, “Hello, I’m UNRETIRED,” along with the caption, “One Night.” [sic] only!!!!!”

In May, the five-time Grammy winner canceled 42 dates Courage World Tour on schedule until April 2024 due to Stiff Person Syndrome.

Later that month, a source told PEOPLE that Dion’s goal is “definitely to tour again, but once will be better.” The insider added: “He is currently focusing on his health.”

Dion’s condition, according to the Stiff Person Syndrome Foundation, affects the central nervous system, specifically the brain and spinal cord. “Patients can be disabled, confined to a wheelchair or bed, unable to work and take care of themselves,” they say.

In September, Dion’s older sister Claudette reported on the Canadian singer’s ongoing health problems. “He’s doing everything to recover,” she told Hello! Canada. “She is a strong woman.”

“It is a disease that we know so little about. There are spasms – it’s impossible to control them,” said Claudette. There is little we can do to support her, to ease her pain.

Another source told PEOPLE that her three sons, René-Charles, 22, and 12-year-old twins Nelson and Eddy, are a source of joy as she regains her strength.

“Her main focus is always her sons and performing. She is the most selfless and caring person,” they said, “Céline just loves her boys so much. They are amazing. They give her all the support and love she needs.”

Dion returned to the stage looking “happy” in November 2023 while performing at a hockey game between the Vegas Golden Knights and the Montreal Canadiens.

“She’s been through a lot and to see her like this and smile and be so happy … it’s amazing,” Chantal Machabée, vice president of hockey communications for the Canadiens, tells PEOPLE. “I know there are good days and not so good days, but this was a very good day and it was encouraging.”
