Fan-favorite dog trainer Cesar Millan is no longer married, but he was previously married to his ex-wife Ilusion Wilson, who taught him how to be a better spouse. When their marriage ended in divorce, Millan was distraught and contemplated suicide. Right after that, his now fiancee Jahira Dar joined his life and helped him move on.
Cesar Millan’s divorce from ex-wife Ilusion Wilson
Millan and Wilson’s love story is like a romantic Hollywood movie, with a little twist at the end. The dog trainer was 23, living alone with his six dogs after fleeing Mexico at the age of 21 when Wilson, then 17, spotted him and fell in love at first sight. The duo quickly reconciled after becoming friends. But things took a turn for the worst when Millan found out he could face jail time for dating a minor. He left Mexico to escape poverty and could not risk deportation. All he could do was ask Wilson to stop seeing him.
The psychotherapist was heartbroken but decided to stay with Millan. So, as soon as she turned 18, she went to live with him and the two started living together. Months later, the adolescent discovered that she was pregnant. The dog specialist wasted no time in proposing to her. They got married in 1994 and had their first son, Andrea, the following year.
However, their marriage failed after a year because Millan did not appreciate their relationship. The leader of the Dog Whisperer saw his wife as a necessary asset, not as an equal partner. When his wife left him and their young son, he recognized the importance of family and his wife. In light of the divorce, he decided to seek treatment to rebuild his marriage. After six months, the couple reunited. Calvin Millan, Millan’s second son, was born in 2001 to Millan and his ex-wife. Wilson filed for divorce in July 2010 after 16 years of marriage.
Cesar Millan devastated by divorce
The timing of the divorce is undoubtedly what upset Millan the most. He did not expect that his long-term marriage would fall apart due to financial difficulties. The loss of his 16-year-old dog, Daddy, worsened his depression. And three months later he found out that he was getting a divorce. Despite all his difficulties, the Culiacán native contemplated suicide. He concocted drugs and ingested them, only to wake up in a mental state.

The children discovered him unconscious and rushed him to the hospital. In an interview with Today, Millan spoke about the terrifying incident, saying he secretly begged his children to take him to their property to die. After recovering from the tragedy, the 52-year-old realized the impact he had on his visitors. So he decided to change his life for the better, and the process became easier because in 2010 he rediscovered love with his current girlfriend, Jahira Dar. He also apologized for his past, agreeing to pay his ex-wife a lump sum of $400,000, monthly spousal support of $23,000 and monthly child support of $10,000 following their April 2012 divorce.
Cesar Millan got engaged to Jahira Dar in 2016
Millan has been in a long-term relationship with his current girlfriend Dar, a former stylist and wardrobe consultant, since August 2010, denying all LGBT allegations. In April 2016, he fulfilled his month-long proposal plan by telling his fiancee that they were going to Spain. He changed the tickets to Greece without telling her and brought her to dinner on top of Mount Lycabettus in Athens.
As the violinist serenaded them, the dog behavior expert got down on one knee and proposed to his lover. That same month, he boasted about his romantic proposal to People, saying he was happy with his flawless plan. He also praised his fiancee and revealed how she helped him rebuild his life. Millan praised Dar with terms such as caring, peaceful, spiritual, smart, instinctively funny and strong, among others.
