Only Murders in the Building fans unimpressed by major episode 8 cliffhanger

Only Murder in the Building is a real show, but the final season left fans shocked and desperate for answers after the big cliffhanger at the end of episode eight. Warning, spoilers ahead…

After ignoring his doctor’s advice and staging a musical version of the murder-mystery show Death Rattle, Oliver Putnam appears to have a second heart attack after his new love Loretta Durkin falsely confesses to Ben Glenroy’s murder and is escorted out of the theater by the police. With Mabel and Charles on hand and immediately coming to his aid, the episode ends on a cliffhanger, with Oliver’s fate unknown – and fans unimpressed.

Sharing a gif of Jennifer Lawrence constantly saying “what do you mean?!”, one person wrote: “That ending! OML OLIVER.” Another person added: “IT’S NOT A GOOD ENDING, OLIVER STAY WITH ME.” A third person wrote: “Oliver, you better hold on [expletive] up and I’m so serious.”

Finally, one person posted: “When I tell you the ending shook me. The way Mabel and Charles immediately came to his aid. Oliver Putnam stay with me!”

The episode also featured a big reveal about Loretta and her relationship with Ben Glenroy. While some fans have already floated the potential theory that Loretta is actually Dickie’s mother, Ben’s adopted brother who worked as his long-time assistant, it turns out that their suspicions were correct, and that Loretta kept clippings of articles and photos of what appeared to be Ben, but all with Dickie .

In the episode, the police were supposed to take Dickie away, causing Loretta to confess to Ben’s murder instead, but fans still don’t think the mother-son duo did it. One person wrote: “I don’t think it’s Loretta. It might be Tobert but what’s his motive? I feel like maybe Dickie did the first attempt and someone else finished the job when Ben was found to be alive or maybe the other way around? Now a bit I doubt Donna.”

Another fan added: “Well clearly Loretta didn’t do it, I doubt Dickie did either. I really think Tobert did I don’t know why. ALSO THE TRIO IS BACK.” Another person added: “What if Dickie THINKS he did it, tells his mom “Loretta”, so she covers for him thinking he did it, but actually we find out in the last ep it’s Tobert.” What do you think?
