All about Cesar Pedros
Cesar Pedroso was born on September 24, 1946 in a musical family in Cuba. His father, grandfather, uncle and brother were members of various musical ensembles. During his career, Cesar was also a member of a number of organizations. He co-founded Los Van Van with bassist Juan Formello in 1969. He founded his own band, Pupy y Los que Son, Son, in 2001 and released four albums with them in 2006.
He built his tone and break schemes with fresh lyrics and used classic son and salsa rhythms. Pedroso also produced a distinct and energetic sound within the new musical style, with distinctive handling of the tumbaos and extremely contemporary orchestrations that paved the way for the new Timba style. Pedroso is the author of almost 150 compositions, all of which received excellent reviews from critics and audiences. He also performed with Giovanni Hidalgo, Danilo Perez, Papa Luccas, Gonzalita Rubalcaba, Gilberto Santa Rosa, Jose Alberto “El Canario” and others.
Pedroso has been praised for his work with Los Van Van in addition to his solo efforts. The release of their most successful album, Transito, in 1974 catapulted the group to stardom. Anda, ven y muevete, published in 1984, contributed to their growing reputation. Lionel Ritchie’s song All Night Long inspired the title track.
Later, in 2011, the trio teamed up with Carlinhos Brown on a song called Soy Loco por Ti, America for the Red Hot Organization’s album Red Hot+Rio 2. Proceeds from sales contributed to raising awareness and funding for the fight against AIDS/HIV and other health and social causes. Pedroso’s early life, work, education and parents are yet to be revealed in detail.
