Chanchal Chowdhury is a Bangladeshi actor. He is famous for his work in Bangladeshi films and TV series. He is a two-time winner of the Bangladesh National Film Award for Best Actor and a three-time Merrill Protom Alo Award for Best Actor.

In 1998, he played the important role of Laley in the drama “Shangkranti” produced by Arannyak Natyodol Production. In 2003, Choudhury performed in the play “Che’er Cycle” produced by Bangladesh Theater Production Company. The actor played the role of Shuburo in the play and considers it to be one of his best performances on stage. Chanchal Chowdhury made her acting debut in 2006 with the Bangladeshi film Rupkothar Golpo: A Fairy Tale. In 2009, he appeared in the Bengali-language film Monpura, playing the lead role of Shonai. The film was remade in Indian Bengali in 2010 under the title “Achin Pakhi”.
In 2010, he starred in the Indo-Bangla Bengali musical drama film “Moner Manush”. This is a biographical film based on the life and philosophy of Lalong, a 19th-century Bengali spiritual leader, poet and folk singer. He played a double role in the Bangladeshi film Aynabaji (2016).

Facts/Trivia
- Chanchal’s parents wanted him to become an engineer, but he had a deep passion for art and culture, which led him to become an actor.
- During his third year of college, he joined the theater troupe “Aronyak” founded by the famous Bangladeshi actor and film producer Mamunur Rashid. He worked there for nearly 10 years.
- He played his first leading role in the drama Grash, directed by Faridur Rahman.
- Apart from being an actor, he also worked as a fine arts lecturer at the University of Alternative Development (UODA), Bangladesh.
- In 2004, he started working in television after being introduced to filmmakers Gias Uddin Selim and Mostofa Sarwar Farooki through a commercial featuring famous Bangladeshi actor Fazlur Rahman Babu. He also sang advertising jingles. Later, he won the Meril-Prothom Alo Best Model Award in 2006 for this advertisement. In an interview, he talked about this and said,
One day Mostafa Sarwar Farooki invited me to meet him. He explained the script for the commercial to me and I quickly agreed because I felt I could relate to the emotions in the script.

- In 2021, he was mobbed on social media after posting a photo with his mother on Mother’s Day. The actor was ridiculed when a group of religious fanatics noticed the customary sindur pattern on his mother’s forehead, a sign of his Hindu faith. In response, Chanchal chose to share poetry that promotes unity and understanding between faiths, encouraging everyone to respect and embrace each other’s beliefs.
