In December 2022, multiple audio clips were leaked on social media in which Imran Khan allegedly had lewd conversations with a woman purported to be Ayla Malik.

Ella Malik is the granddaughter of Malik Aamir Muhammad Khan, the Nawab of Karabagh. Amir Mohammad Khan served as governor-general of West Pakistan in the 1960s and was notorious for his brutality in his heyday. He was killed by his son Asadullah Khan on November 26, 1967 over a family property dispute.

In 2017, Aila parted ways with the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), saying the party no longer pursued public welfare policies.

On July 30, 2013, a two-member election tribunal constituted by the Lahore High Court (LHC) disqualified Ayla Malik from contesting the 2013 by-elections for her submission to the Pakistan Elections Commission (CEC) submitted fake degrees. The petition was filed by Obaidullah Shadikr of the Pakistan Muslim League and cousin of Imran Khan Inamullah Niazi.

In 2022, several old phone recordings of Pakistani politician Imran Khan went viral on social media, showing him having sex with Ayla Malik. In the leaked audio, Imran Khan can be heard having an inappropriate conversation with a woman, believed to be Ella. However, Imran Khan’s Tehreek-e-Insaf denied the news and claimed the tapes were fake. Ella, believed to be the woman on the other end of the line, also denied the news and said the voice was not hers.
