I auditioned for Delhi Belly but didn’t get the role. The casting director remembered me and invited me to audition for the role of Mikhail in Kamini while the script was being written. So when I auditioned in front of Vishal sir, I had no script and just improvised for about 20 minutes. After some time, I auditioned again at Mr. Vishal’s office and then left for San Francisco for my play. I didn’t think I would get the role because a lot of big names were being considered for the role. 22 days later the casting director called me and told me that everyone was contacting me like crazy because I had been chosen to play Mikhail. In fact, they even incorporated things into it that I improvised during my first audition in the movie. “

My mother is very hard. She even worked door to door to provide food for us – my brother and I – and to pay for our school fees during a very difficult time when my father was ill. ” My father was posted to Ludhiana in Punjab for work and I lived with my uncle’s family in Karol Bagh. While in college, he formed a theater group “Antara” with his friends.

He studied chemistry and earned income by providing tuition to students during college. He shared his college life in an interview, saying:

The early days were chaotic, difficult and listless. I am studying Mathematics (Hons), teaching Mathematics and Science to school students and earning a meager salary of Rs 800 per month to pay for my drama classes, tickets and movies. I enrolled in a workshop organized by Habib Tanvir in Delhi and he found me passionate and hard working and invited me to join his Naya theater group where I joined as an actor, 50 rupees per show, 40 rupees per day. I took the bus to perform in small places for a year. I completed my graduation soon and left for Mumbai immediately. “

He considers the famous Indian director Vishal Bhardwaj as his mentor and father figure.

The play he directed, based on Vijay Tendulkar’s Sakharam Binder, won the ‘THESPO’ Award for Best Drama in 2004, and he also won the Best Actor award at the event.
