Chandrani Murmu is an Indian politician. She is from Biju Janata Dal (BJD). In the 2019 general election, she contested and won her first-ever election. She was India’s youngest member of parliament in 2019, at only 25 years old.

Chandrani Murmu was born on June 16, 1994 (25 years old in 2019) in Tikargumura village, Odisha. Her zodiac sign is Gemini. She studied in a local school in Keonjhar, Odisha. She then went on to study for a bachelor’s degree. In 2017, she received her bachelor’s degree from Institute of Technical Education and Research (ITER), Bhubaneswar. After completing her B.Tech, she was looking for a job as a mechanical engineer but could not find one. After a year of job hunting, she decided to apply for a government job. She applied as a probationary officer in a bank and as an assistant section officer in the Odisha government.

Once, when her uncle Harmohan Soren came to visit, he suggested her to join politics and contest the 2019 general elections from Keonjhar constituency. She took it as a joke and didn’t think much of it. The next day, her uncle told her that he was serious and that she had a good chance of winning; so, she agreed. Her uncle is a retired man and a social worker. He knew many BJD members. He arranged a meeting with Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and both met him on April 1, 2019.

Chandrani Murmu joined the BJD on April 1, 2019, when she met Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik. On April 2, 2019, her name was announced as the BJD candidate for the 2019 Lok Sabha elections from Keonjhar constituency. On May 23, 2019, she was declared the winner of Keonjhar constituency, making her the youngest-ever MP from India.

  • On April 6, members of the Bharatiya Janata Party accused Chandrani of fraud. They revealed that her father’s name in her nomination papers was different from that in the voter ID card and her college. Chandrani clarified that her father’s real name is Sanjib Murmu. Sinha was mentioned in some official documents by his voter ID. She also clarified that Kartik Chandra Soren is her local guardian and due to a clerical error, her local guardian is referred to as her father.
  • In April 2019, a morphed video and some objectionable pictures of her appeared on WhatsApp and other social media platforms. She reported the matter to the police, who arrested the accused. Police said the video and images were fake. This information was spread to damage the reputation of Chandrani Murmu.
