Chandro Tomar is an Indian professional sharpshooter. She is known as the oldest sharpshooter in the world. She has won more than 30 national championships. She passed away on April 30, 2021, after a battle with COVID-19.

Chandro Tomar was born on Friday, January 1, 1932, in Shamli, Uttar Pradesh (died aged 89). Her zodiac sign is Capricorn. She came from a farming family and got married when she was 15 years old. She lives in Jori village in Baghpat district of Uttar Pradesh. Tomar never received formal education. At the age of 65, she began shooting as a career. In 1999, her granddaughter Shefali wanted to learn shooting and decided to join the Johri Rifle Club. Shefali felt shy going to an all-boys shooting club alone and invited Tomar to accompany her. One day, when her granddaughter Shefali was unable to load her rifle, Tomar stepped forward to help her and fired a shot at the target. Her first short film caught people’s attention. Club coach Farooq Pathan was amazed by her skills and suggested her to join the club and get proper training. On his advice, Chandro underwent extensive training for two years and participated in many state and national level shooting championships.
She won a silver medal at her first North Section Championships. Since 1999, Tomar has competed in and won over 30 national championships across India. She won a gold medal at the Veterans Shooting Championship in Chennai. In 2016, Chandro competed in her last competition in Delhi and won a bronze medal. After 2016, Tomar continued to coach youths, speak at rallies and start various sports organizations.
Tomar has also appeared in various television shows including “Satyaev Jayate,” “India’s Got Talent” and History TV’s “OMG! Yemera India.”
In 2019, Tushar Hiranandani produced a film called Saand Ki Aankh, based on Tomar and her sister-in-law Prakashi Tomar biography. Bollywood actresses Taapsee Pannu and Bhumi Pednekar play the roles of Chandro and Prakashi in the film. The film was declared tax-free in Delhi and Rajasthan.

Chandro Tomar belongs to the Jat Family. Her brother is in the military. Her husband’s name is Bol Singh. She has three sons and three daughters. All her daughters learned to shoot and competed in shooting championships at the international level. Tomar has 15 grandchildren. Her granddaughter Shefali Tomar is an international shooter. Her niece Seema is also a sharpshooter. In 2010, she became the first Indian woman to win a medal at the Rifle and Pistol World Cup. Chandro’s sister-in-law Prakash Tomar is also a sharpshooter.

She passed away on April 30, 2021, after a battle with COVID-19. She was admitted to a hospital in Meerut on April 26, 2021, complaining of breathing difficulties. After Chandro’s death, her sister-in-law Prakash Tomar wrote on her Twitter page:

Her granddaughter Shefali also competed in the same competition in the junior category and both won silver medals in the championships.
- Initially, her husband neither supported nor opposed her passion for shooting, but as she excelled in her field, her husband encouraged her as well as other members of the family.
- She owned a pistol worth £1,200.
- Tomar used to wear traditional village clothes for shoots. To avoid the wind, she often covered her head.
- When chores kept her from going to the shooting range, Chandro practiced by throwing rocks at bottles filled with water in her backyard.
- When asked in the interview if people were afraid of her, Chandro replied –

- In October 2019, Chandro along with her sister-in-law Prakashi Tomar and the cast of the film “Saand Ki Aankh” visited the sets of “The Kapil Sharma Show” to promote the film.
- In October 2019, Chandro and her sister-in-law Prakashi Tomar visited a cinema in Balaut, Uttar Pradesh, to watch the premiere of their film. There was a large crowd in the theater asking the two to take a selfie together.
- Chandro had traveled to Punjab, Haryana and Bihar to set up shooting ranges for the people there.
- According to reports, there was a signboard near their house that read “Shooter Dadi” and a slogan “Beti Bachao, Beti Khilao, Beti Padhaao”. written on it.
- Chandro underwent surgery in October 2019 and is currently recovering in a Delhi hospital.
- Chandro said in an interview that her son-in-law was one of her first supporters.
- In an interview, Chandro revealed that when she visited the sets of Bigg Boss 13, she joked with Salman Khan if he was the same person she had seen on television over the years. However, the segment was edited by the Bigg Boss 13 team and Tomar was not happy with it.
