Chappell Roan didn’t mess around preparing for her first MTV VMAs.
“Good luck, baby!” singer, 26, brought her epic style to the red carpet in New York City on Sept. 11 — and in medieval fashion. She appeared wearing a sheer flowing Y/Project dress topped with a mint green cape. She wore thigh-high boots underneath.

However, her accessories may have indicated a dress – she carried a sword and wore metal cuffs on each wrist, as well as a large necklace with a cross and multiple jewels. She also sported extra long nails for added drama.
She wore her red hair in romantic curls down from her face and was accompanied by a knight in matching attire. Her glamorous look was dark and vampy with a smokey eye and dark red lipstick.

For her first VMA award, Roan was nominated for Best New Artist. She is up against Benson Boone, Gracie Abrams, Shaboozey, Teddy Swims and Tyla. She is also scheduled to perform during the show. Also performing are Sabrina Carpenter, Camila Cabello and Katy Perry, who will take home the Video Vanguard award.

He added: “With her game-changing creative vision, she has become a global phenomenon and has taken over the world’s biggest stages. Katya’s prowess will be on full display LIVE at the VMA Awards with a career-ending, unmissable performance that will celebrate the biggest moments and chart-topping hits.”

Roan became known for her incredible fashion choices on stage. At this year’s Governor’s Ball in New York, she dressed as the Statue of Liberty. She told the crowd she was “in love” with the monument because Lady Liberty is “the greatest queen of all,” before quoting a poem engraved on the Statue of Liberty.
“Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses, longing to breathe free,” she quoted part of the song, before explaining what she thought were the words, according to a video he shared on TikTok Rolling Stone.
“It means freedom in trans rights, it means freedom in women’s rights… and especially it means freedom for all oppressed people in the occupied territories,” she said after becoming visibly emotional.
The 2024 MTV VMAs air on September 11 at 8:00 PM ET/PT live from the UBS Arena in New York City.
