Pioneering entrepreneur Charisse McGill passed away on January 16, 2024 at the age of 42. Her family released a statement Thursday night on the Lokal Artisan Foods Instagram page,

Charisse was a local food entrepreneur. She was known for her creative business knowledge and civic engagement. She initially managed the Lansdale Farmers Market and later served as the Director of Special Events at Valley Forge Military Academy.
She was the founder and owner of Lokal Artisan Foods, whose initial funding came from selling lemonade for her daughter Madison. Now her daughter will continue to help run the company after Charisse’s death.
Charisse McGill told the Philadelphia Tribune during a September 2023 interview that her daughter Madison started her lemonade business at the age of 12 and spent fourteen Saturdays during the summer selling lemonade and earning $6,000.
The Artisan Foods location launched in 2018, and its flagship food item, French Toast Bites, often sold out at high-traffic local spots, including the Cherry Street Pier and Spruce Street Harbor Park.
In 2021, Charisse McGill became the first black woman to sell a signature beer in Pennsylvania with the introduction of French Toat Ale in collaboration with Yards Brewing Company. Charisse’s company produced a spice and coffee based on her French Toast Bites.
Charisse McGill was about to become the first black woman to serve as executive director of the Farmers Market Coalition where she advocated for more than 8,000 farmers markets across America.
During the historic appointment, Charisse told reporters that she hopes to open doors for more and more black women. Over the years, she took risks, but everything worked out.
Charisse McGill lived with her parents Maurice Davidson and Tina Jackson and daughter Madison.

Local Artisan Foods founder Charisse McGill was born and raised in Pittsburgh to Maurice Davidson (father) and Tina Jackson (mother). She was born in 1981 and died at the age of 42. She passed out at Schenley High School in 1999.
She moved to Philly to pursue a degree in Sports and Recreation, Tourism and Hospitality Management from Temple University in 1999, graduating in 2003. She took a meeting and event planning course at Temple University for 2 years.
She later studied at Delaware County Community College from 2008 to 2009. She received her MBA in Food Marketing from Saint Joseph’s University in 2018.
Charisse McGill began her career as a sales associate with the Philadelphia 76ers in 2001, leaving in 2003 to work in the Atlantic 10 Conference as an assistant commissioner in 2002.
She worked there for 4 years. She served as the Associate Competition Director for Special Olympics PA from April 2007 to September 2007. She was the American Heart Association’s Youth Marketing Director for 2 years in the greater Philadelphia area.
She worked as a Lecturer in Event Planning and Management at Rutgers University from December 2010 to July 2011 in Camden, NJ. Charisse McGill also served as the head varsity basketball coach at Benjamin Franklin High School for two years.
She worked as a meeting and event consultant with Ardent Meeting & Event Management from July 2006 to November 2013 in the greater Philadelphia area. She worked as an assistant women’s basketball coach at Bucks County Community College for 5 months.
McGill worked as a hotel management instructor at Philadelphia Academies, Inc. from August 2010 to August 2015. From August 2015 to November 2016, she served as the Director of Marketing and Communications at Saint Mark’s High School in Wilmington, DE. She served as a co-organizer for TEDxPhiladelphia from January 2018 to November 2018 in the greater Philadelphia area.
She worked as the Market Manager at the Lansdale Farmers’ Market from May 2013 to July 2019 on Main Street on Railroad Ave, Lansdale, PA. She worked as an adjunct professor at Montgomery County Community College from January 2017 to December 2020.
Charisse McGill opened her own company, Lokal Artisan Foods, LLC in January 2018 and launched French Toast Bites in 2018. As of June 2023, she serves as the Executive Director at the Farmers Market Coalition.
Information about Charissa McGills personal life is not known, but she was blessed with an 18-year-old daughter, Madison, who also runs McGill’s company.
