There is no more bad blood between Charlie Sheen and his ex-wife Denise Richards.
“We’re absolutely friendly,” Sheen, 58, tells PEOPLE while recently talking about his past, as well as his six years of sobriety.
“We’ve been through so much s— together that I don’t think any of us have the energy left for a rift,” he continues. “The only thing that matters is the kids. We knew we had to put our nonsense aside and focus on the kids, because they don’t have anything to do with our shit.”

At that time, Sheen’s career was on a high rise with success Two and a half Men. But he also publicly struggled with drug and alcohol addiction, and series creator Chuck Lorre fired him in 2003.

Sheen is now quietly returning to the small screen in the series Max Bookmaker — also created by Lorre, with whom he reconciled in the meantime. Sheen says he knows that returning to the spotlight means his past will be dug up, but he admits it.
“It would be impossible to write about a Charlie Sheen and Chuck Lorre reunion without throwing in a few posthumous nuggets,” he says. “I’m processing a lot more right now than I normally would, and that’s fine. That’s fine. If I’m being called to deal with it, to go into it a little deeper for this [return to work]And that’s fine.”
