Chase Stokes’ career continues to soar, but he will always be proud of his Foreign banks roots.
The actor, 32, had an exciting fall with the release of Netflix Rugobes in September and the upcoming fourth season of the treasure hunt adventure Foreign bankswhich is released in two parts on the platform starting October 10.
In Season 4, Stokes reprises his role as John Ba, a free-spirited “Pogue” who is always looking for a new adventure with his tight-knit group of friends – and is also an extremely fit surfer. The look isn’t necessarily easy to maintain, but staying true to character means respecting the “super skinny” physique he’s meant to represent, Stokes tells PEOPLE.

“I just want to naturally represent myself and take care of my body and present that to the world,” he says at a Brooks Running event for the new Glycerin Max shoes. “I don’t want to appear on screen and look like I don’t take care of myself, because I think that’s kind of a disparagement and a discredit to the show and the audience that follows it.”
Ahead of the series’ big comeback, Stokes teamed up with Brooks as they launched their new shoe, the Glycerin Max. The partnership seemed natural to the actor because he “always loved running in some form,” and the shoe became his “most common” running shoe, he says.

“They’re also wildly comfortable,” the Tell me your secrets says the actor. “I find myself walking around the house in them, and I’m like, oh yeah, they’re still on my feet. Interesting. Take your shoes off Chase, you’re in.”
Although his career is taking him to new heights, Stokes says he will always be grateful for the opportunity Foreign banks he provided, from the kid who lives in his car to the newly minted Hollywood star.
“You can’t slap the hand that fed you,” says Stokes. “You can’t discredit or belittle the thing that gave you not only the opportunity, but the ability to live a life I didn’t think was possible.”
He adds that in the early days of his career, he always felt passionate about finding his footing in a young-adult show, as many actors who have found longevity in their careers started out in a similar way. When Foreign banks came, he knew it was his chance – and, five years later, he wouldn’t change a thing.

“I would never make fun of a show that gave me the opportunity to have the life that I have,” he says. “I will always be grateful for this show and for our hosts who took a chance on a kid who had little to no credit on his resume.”
Stokes isn’t the only cast member whose career has skyrocketed since the series premiered in April 2020. Costars like Madelyn Cline and Drew Starkey have gone on to work on successful projects like 2022. Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery for Cline and, for Starkey, 2024 queerwho now works the festival circuit (“His talent is a beautiful thing. I’m extremely proud,” Stokes says of his close friend).

However, despite all their impressive latest credentials, the main cast will be happy to reunite to film the show that started it all, according to Stokes.
“I think like everything in life, friendships change. People go to different places, life takes you to different places,” he says. “But no matter where life took us, our safe place was always the show. It was always like when the world gets big and a little crazy, the world Foreign banks is like going back to bed after traveling.”

Foreign banks Season 4, part one will be shown on October 10th on Netflix, and part two on November 7th.
