Cher Brings Festive Holiday Cheer to Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade with New Christmas Song

Cher just brought down the house at the 2023 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.

The superstar, 77, brought the festivities to a close on Thursday morning after a cascade of colorful floats and performances that entertained crowds tuning in from across the country.

The actress and singer serenaded the audience with her new song, “DJ Play a Christmas Song,” from her album, Christmas. She was surrounded by a group of dancers holding big red hearts – and even got a round of applause from Flavor Flav, who was seen clapping and cheering in the New York crowd.

Even a minor broadcast glitch — which interrupted the video feed to display distorted colors while leaving audio intact, according to Entertainment Weekly — did not interrupt Cher’s flow.

Cher kept warm in her best cold-weather gear, which of course included bling through a pair of black sequined pants and a shimmering silver coat, which she took off during the performance.

The performance of her hit song followed performances by artists such as Jon Batiste, Jessie James Decker, Brandy, Chicago, En Vogue, David Foster and Katharine McPhee, Ashley Park and Pentatonix, as well as numbers from Broadway productions including Shit, Back to future: Musical and Spamalot.

Thursday’s performance wasn’t Cher’s only holiday outing, as she’ll be back on stage in just a few days for the iconic Christmas tree lighting at Rockefeller Center in New York.

She is scheduled to perform two songs, a solo and a duet with Darlene Love — possibly “Christmas (Baby Please Come Home),” which they recently recorded together for Cher’s new Christmas album.

Other acts set to perform on stage during the two-hour event include Chloe Bailey, Adam Blackstone, Keke Palmer, Foster and McPhee, Liz Gillies, Seth MacFarlane, Barry Manilow, Carly Pearce and Manuel Turizo.

And of course, the Rockettes will be on deck to perform the song during the Kelly Clarkson-hosted broadcast.

While promoting the release of her album Christmas, Cher’s first vacation project, the Grammy winner said PAPER earlier this year, looking back at his catalog of work, he has some criticism.

“I’ve made so many albums and some of the ones that I thought were as good as I could love my album weren’t hits. And then others that I wasn’t so excited about [were]”, she explained.

“So I like this album. I’m not a Cher fan, but I love doing it,” she admitted. “When I listen [Christmas]I think this worked.”

She added: “I just never loved my voice that much. If I had my choice, I’d probably have another one, but I didn’t. I have my mother’s voice.”
