Cher Says Younger Boyfriend Alexander ‘A.E.’ Edwards Doesn’t Get ‘Most of My References’

Cher has a lot of “love and understanding” for her boyfriend Alexander “AE” Edwards — even when he’s not entirely sure what she’s talking about.

In a new interview with ExtraThe 77-year-old icon opened up about what it’s like to date someone 40 years younger.

“I hate to talk about how happy I am, but no, we’re having a great time together,” she told the exclusive show on Monday.

“We can talk about music. We can talk about anything. He has a great sense of humor, he has the cutest son in the world, ever… We just get along,” Cher continued.

The “Believe” singer and Edwards first sparked dating rumors when they were photographed holding hands in November 2022.

His role as music director at Universal Music Group may help bond them together, but when it comes to other topics, Cher admits he can be taken aback.

“Sometimes I talk to him and he has no idea who I’m talking about… The other day I said, ‘Do you know who, I don’t know, Clark Gable, [is]?’ Someone said, ‘Yes, of course,’ but most of my recommendations… He will look at me and say, ‘I haven’t been born yet,'” she told the newspaper.

Cher spoke to Extra while promoting her latest album, Christmas. Edwards also worked on the project.

“This has to be the right time because I’ve been asked forever, starting with the Sonny and Cher days,” the Golden Globe winner said, noting that she previously thought she’d never make a holiday album.

“It’s a very strange Christmas album. All trails are their own little islands. Nothing seems to go together, but when you hear it, it works,” she added.

In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE earlier this month, Cher described how the pair were able to work well together Christmas.

“He’s a great producer,” she said of Edwards. “I let him do ‘Drop Top Sleigh.’ It’s hard to do that when you’re in love with somebody and then you’re like, ‘OK, here, take this record and do what you want with it.’ But I had faith. And I was so thrilled.”

Cher also explained to PEOPLE how the theory that opposites attract has proven to be correct for her so far.

“Alexander has diamond teeth, tattoos, white hair and is much younger. He is a beautiful man,” she said.
