Cher Turns Back Time and Rocks Black Bodysuit Similar to One She Wore 35 Years Ago

Cher still knows how to rock a black bodysuit!

The legendary performer, 78, wore a glittering, skin-tight suit similar to the one she wore 35 years ago for her 1989 hit, “If I Could Turn Back Time” at the annual amfAR Gala in Cap d’Antibes, France on Thursday, May 23. The gala evening — one of the premier events related to the Cannes Film Festival — raises funds for AIDS research.

Earlier that evening, Cher hit the red carpet with her boyfriend Alexander Edwards, 38, in a floor-length dress. The couple, who are 40 years apart, held hands and kissed on the red carpet.

She also posed with her longtime friend Demi Moore, who later presented her performance at the gala evening.

Before Cher took the stage, a date with the legendary performer in Malibu, California was auctioned for S$150,000, with the proceeds going to AIDS research.

I’m just making sure you’re really, really with me,” Moore, 61, said. while those present cheered. “Because this amazing woman that I’m going to introduce to you, she’s a Grammy winner, an Oscar winner, an Emmy winner—are you the Emmy winner in the back of the room? Holy shit, I don’t think so.”

“She’s a style icon and my personal hair inspiration,” Moore continued. “And amfAR honored her with their 2015 Inspiration Award. Cher then went on stage in a blue wig (as opposed to the black she wore on the red carpet) and a purple suit, and opened her four-song set with “Walking In Memphis.”

She was then joined by dancers in a spirited rendition of ABBA’s “Waterloo,” which she covered on her 2018 album. Dancing queen. After two songs, she briefly left the stage while the audience followed the dance number.

She came back in a black curly wig, à la Infatuated with the moonand black, transparent bodysuit, leather bomber and tall black boots perform “If I Could Turn Back Time”. The outfit was reminiscent of the one she wore in a music video back in 1989. At the time, MTV thought the look was too flamboyant and didn’t release the video until after 9 p.m.

Before her latest song, Cher shared a personal story.

“When I was 50, which seems so young now, but when I was 50, I was dropped by my record company,” she began. “One day my manager who was my best friend came and said, ‘You know me… respect is too much sewn into your talent and I don’t believe in you anymore.’ ”

“I was like, ‘F— me.’ I was like, ‘I don’t know what to do,’ Cher continued, ‘Then the man from England said, ‘I still believe in you. I have a song you can sing. And we’ll see what happens, if people and they still believe in you.’ ”

Cher then performed “Believe,” the 1998 dance anthem that introduced her to a whole new generation of fans.

Onlookers at the Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc, where the gala was held, said she “looked amazing” and that her “voice was as strong as ever”.
