Payne, 31, died on October 16 after falling from the balcony of his hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Two days later, Cheryl shared a photo of him and their 7-year-old son on Instagram, asking fans to respect their family’s privacy.
“As I try to get over this devastating event and process my own grief at this incredibly painful time, I would like to remind everyone that we have lost a human being,” she wrote. “Liam was not only a pop star and a celebrity, he was a son, brother, uncle, dear friend and father to our 7-year-old son. A son who now has to face the reality that he will never see his father again.”

She continued, “What troubles my spirit the most is that Bear will one day have access to the vile reporting and media exploitation we’ve seen over the past two days. It breaks my heart even more that I can’t protect him from that in his future.”
“Please consider what some of these reports serve, other than to cause further damage to anyone left to pick up the pieces,” Cheryl concluded. “Before you post comments or make videos, ask yourself if you want your own child or family to read them. Please give Liam what little dignity he has left after his death to at least rest in peace.”

Cheryl asks public to think about her and Liam Payne’s son Bear, 7, after singer’s death: ‘Breaking My Heart’
Cheryl and Payne first met in 2008 on the set of a movie The X factorwhere Payne was a contestant and Cheryl was a judge. They started their relationship in 2016 and welcomed their son a year later. They broke up in 2018, but remained close associates.
“I couldn’t ask [for] someone better. The relationship we have with each other now as friends has only grown even more,” Payne said of Cheryl on Logan Paul’s Impulsive podcast 2022 “We broke up for a reason and now, she gives me complete autonomy of my own life to go and do what I do and at the same time I know he’s taken care of because he’s all she cares about. You couldn’t ask for more.”
A preliminary autopsy report found that Payne suffered multiple “internal and external” injuries in the fall from the balcony, and the State Criminal and Prisons Prosecutor’s Office later said he was “not fully conscious or experiencing a state of marked reduction or loss of consciousness at the time of the fall. ”
