At the age of 17, he made his debut in first-class cricket for Punjab. He later played for Haryana, helping them win the 1990-91 Ranji Trophy, and moved to Bangladesh in 1993 and played for them until his retirement.

In February 2023, India’s Zee News channel launched a sting operation against him, which caused huge controversy. In the video, he claimed that former India captain Virat Kohli believed he was greater than Indian cricket. He also claimed that Virat had a grudge against former BCCI president and Indian team captain Sourav Ganguly and deliberately leaked the news of his dismissal as Indian team captain to the media to defame Ganguly.
