Chico is one of the artists who revived Brazilian music at the end of the 1960s. They are among the initiators of the genre called Música Popular Brasileira (MPB), derived from the fusion of styles that surround them, such as Bossa Nova, Samba, Jazz or Rock ‘n’ Roll while holding the expression.

Chico Buarque’s career
Chico is the eldest son of Sérgio Buarque de Hollande, Buarque lived in many places during his childhood, but mainly in São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro and Rome.
In his childhood, he studied and wrote literature and established music through the bossa nova compositions of João Gilberto and Tom Jobim.
In the 1960s, Chico performed as a guitarist and singer, and also wrote a work that was considered dangerous by the then Brazilian military dictatorship.
Buarque, along with many tropicalista and MPB musicians, was pressured by the Brazilian military government and finally left Brazil for Italy in 1969.
However, Buarque returned to Brazil in 1970 and continued to perform, record, and write, though government censors suppressed most of his content.
He later released many more albums in the 1980s and published 3 novels in the 1990s and 2000s.
In 2019, Chico received the Camões Award, the most outstanding award for literature in the Portuguese language.
