Biography of Chief Keef
Chief Keef was born on August 15, 1995 in Chicago, Illinois to Alfonzo Cozart and Lolita Carter. He was raised by his grandmother in the Washington Park neighborhood of Chicago. His mother died when he was 16, so there is no information about his father; he was named after his deceased uncle.
He started rapping at a young age, using his mother’s karaoke machine to record music. He attended Dulles Elementary School, Banner High School, and Dyett High School before dropping out at age 15 and receiving his B.A.
After dropping out of school, he began gaining community recognition with his mixtapes titled “The Glory Road and Band.” In 2011, he was charged with unlawful use of a weapon after firing shots from a Pontiac Grand Prix and was placed under house arrest for two months at his grandmother’s house.

Chief Keef began rapping at the age of five, using his mother’s karaoke machine and borrowing blank tapes from friends and neighbors to create music. He became famous primarily thanks to the music videos he published on YouTube. He was more popular among high school students in the early years of his career. He released ‘the glory road’ and ‘Bang’ in 2011, followed by ‘Back from the Dead’ by glory boyz in March 2012.
He later released ‘I Don’t Like’, which was remixed by Kanye West. Interscope Records released the album ‘Finally, rich’ in December 2012, with the singles ‘I Love Sosa’ and ‘Hate Bein’ Sober’ reaching number 29 on the Billboard 200. It featured Wiz Khalifa, 50 Cent, Master P and French Montana. Keef signed to Gucci Mane’s 1017 Records in early 2013.
Keef’s collaborative mixtapes include Big Gucci Sosa (2014), Nobody (2014) and Almighty DP (2015). In 2015, he announced his new album “The Cozart” and signed to Filmon. Keef announced his retirement from rap in 2016, but returned to the music scene in 2017.
