Chiefs Coach Andy Reid Boasts He Met Taylor Swift Before Travis Kelce: ‘Last Thing Trav Wanted to Hear’

Kansas City Chiefs Tight End Travis Kelce had quite the reaction after finding out that his head coach Andy Reid was introduced to Taylor Swift before him!

Reid, a three-time Super Bowl-winning coach, told Tom Brady and Jim Gray on their SiriusXM podcast Let’s go! with Tom Brady, Larry Fitzgerald and Jim Gary how he met Red singer, 34.

Gray asked Reid what it was like for him and the Chiefs to have the strong support of the singer and her fans.

“Yeah, listen, she was great. I knew her before, from Philadelphia. Her father [Scott Swift] played on [University of] Delaware and he was a big football fan and a good guy,” Reid explained. “So that’s where I met him and her.”

Reid then joked that Kelce, 34, wasn’t too thrilled to learn that his coach knew his girlfriend before he did.

“That was the last thing Trav wanted to hear, that I knew her before him. (laughs) She said to him, ‘I know your coach,'” Reid said. “And he said, ‘Oh, God, come on!’ (laughter).”

“She’s a good girl. And I’m happy for Trav,” Reid said.

“And that way there was no distraction at all. And Trav handled it well, she handled it well and we just move forward,” he continued. “So it wasn’t a problem at all.”

Reid’s story follows the Chiefs’ AFC Championship Game run, which ended with the team securing its spot in Super Bowl LVIII next month. The Chiefs beat the Baltimore Ravens 17-10.

Reid has previously been vocal about his approval of the pair. After the Chiefs beat the New England Patriots on Dec. 17, Reid told PEOPLE he was glad she was at the game.

“I hope she enjoyed herself,” Reid exclusively shared with PEOPLE. “She’s got a great boyfriend that she’s in a relationship with right now, so I’m happy for both of them.”

Reid told Outkick’s in November Five seats that he met the singer when she was “really young” because her father “was a big NFL fan.”

Reid then sarcastically took credit for orchestrating the romance between Swift and Kelce, joking, “I was joking that I set Kelce up, and, you know, I’m just saying!”

On Friday, Kelce shot down criticism that his romance with Swift has distracted him this season. The tight end said that he and the “Karma” singer “talked about” privacy management.

“As long as we’re happy, we can’t listen to anything that’s outside noise,” Kelce said. – That’s all that matters.

Kelce said he “would be silly” not to acknowledge the increased attention he’s received over the past year. However, he promised that his “focus” remains on the success of the Kansas City Chiefs.

The Chiefs will play the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl LVIII on February 11.
