Childish Gambino Cancels Previously Postponed Tour Dates, Citing Scheduled Surgery: 'Need Time Out to Heal'

Donald Glover has announced that he is canceling the remainder of his Childish Gambino New World Tour dates after initially postponing them, citing ongoing health issues and upcoming surgery.

In a statement he shared on his social media on Friday, October 4, the day after the tour was supposed to end, Glover wrote: “After my show in New Orleans, I went to the hospital in Houston to make sure I had an illness that became apparent. After I evaluated it, it became clear that I would not perform that night, and after additional tests, I could not perform the rest of the American tour in the required time. I have an operation scheduled from now on.

Glover continued: “My road to recovery is something I have to take seriously. In light of this, we have made the difficult decision to cancel the remainder of our North American tour and UK and European dates. Tickets will be refunded at the point of purchase.”

The actor and musician, who performs under the moniker Childish Gambino, embarked on his latest tour titled in support of Bando stone and the new world, published in July. About a month into his North American tour, Glover announced that he would be postponing his September 9 show in Houston due to “illness.” A day later, he postponed the rest of the tour, writing that he needed to “focus on his physical health for a few weeks”.

While there is no exact timeline for his return to the stage, the “Redbone” singer promises to give fans a proper send-off. “I want nothing more than to bring this show to the fans and perform. Until then, thank you for your love, privacy and support,” he concluded his statement.

Glover explained in an interview with The New York Times why he finally retired Gambino’s alter ego. “It’s not fulfilling. And I just felt like I don’t need to build this way anymore,” he said.
