Chip and Joanna Gaines had a great start to the new year!
On Sunday, Joanna took to Instagram to share photos and videos of a very colorful holiday with lots of fireworks. Posts documenting the family’s festive celebrations included The upper part of the fixator the couple’s children: Drake, 18, Ella, 17, Duke, 15, Emmie, 13, and Crew, 5.
The first video shows children lighting Roman candle fireworks around a fire. Later in the video, a full-on fireworks display played out in the sky above the Gaines’ heads.

Joanna set the whole scene to 10,000 Maniacs’ “These Are Days.” She also published a photo of that moment, where she caught her spending quality time around the fire. “Happy New Year! #2024,” she wrote.

As for Chip, the family patriarch shared a video of a local hometown fireworks display. “Who could resist,” he captioned the image. Joanna shared the same image on her own Instagram feed with the cheeky caption: “‘Buy 1 Get 5 Free’ gets it every time.”
The Gaines family has long been known for gathering together and respecting long-standing traditions. IN Magnolia JournalIn the winter issue, Joanna highlighted a special ritual that her mother-in-law Gayle follows every holiday.
“Like clockwork, we repeat rituals and recreate memories: in the morning we pack up the kids and go to the Christmas tree farm,” Joanna recalled in a letter to the editor of the publication. “Thanksgiving, when Chip’s mom gives each of us a new ornament to mark the year.”

She added: “We enjoy our favorite food, unpack decorations from our childhood, repeat nostalgic notes. We keep our rituals close, but we keep our people even closer.”
In their latest PEOPLE cover story, Chip and Joanna, who have been married for 20 years, opened up about their family connection and the next phase of their relationship.
“I would say as we get older, I change and I’m more like Chip and Chip is more like me,” Joanna said of her husband.
“Jo and I are in this beautiful moment. We’re evolving into each other,” Chip added. – That is the second part of our marriage.
For Joanna, that means facing life’s fears — including her two new hobbies of horseback riding and beekeeping — and allowing herself to live more in the moment and be emotional, even if it’s painful at times. “It’s definitely a more real way of living and I’m grateful for that,” she said.
For Chip, 49, it’s a little easier and helps his wife shine. “I want to be her biggest cheerleader,” he said. “I say, ‘Hey, you go do whatever. My knees are killing me.’ ”
Joanna joked that she attributed the role reversal to a “mid-life crisis,” but at 45, she said, “we just see life differently now.”

Their children, who range in age from 5 to 18, have shaped the couple’s current outlook.
Saying goodbye to Drake, who started college in September, was a particularly difficult moment. “It’s this tension of joy and pain, all in one breath,” Joanna recalled of the emotional fallout. “Even now, when I’m setting the table, I have to consciously say, ‘Oh, there’s only six here.’ ”
Having Crew at home was a meaningful counterpoint to that void.
“The greatest gift when a child goes to college and has a five-year-old is that perspective,” she added. “It’s not here forever. We don’t want to waste these moments.”
