Political career
Chitra joined the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh in 2014 and served as the president of the Maharashtra women’s wing of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh. In 2019, she resigned from her position and quit the party. In 2021, she joined the Bharatiya Janata Party and was appointed as the national president of the Maharashtra Mahira Morcha of the Bharatiya Janata Party on November 3, 2022.

In September 2021, the Marina Drive police filed a case against Chitra under Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) when Chitra was protesting outside Mantralaya. She protested against the Maharashtra government led by Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) seeking to convene a special assembly session to discuss the issue of women’s safety. In November 2022, she was acquitted in this case.
Accused of portraying BJP leader in wrong light
In February 2022, Chitra sparked controversy when she was accused of forcing a 23-year-old girl to accuse Shiv Sena Raghunath Kuchik of raping her. The 23-year-old accused the BJP leaders of torturing, threatening and forcing her to have an abortion by making false promises of marriage. Kuchik completely rejects these accusations and said,
The case was registered out of a political conspiracy to defame me and my family. It is also a form of blackmail and an attempt to tarnish my work in the labor sector and my social and political image over the years. “
After some time, a Pune court granted him anticipatory bail. Chitra was not happy with the decision and asked the court to take action against him. In April 2022, the victim dropped the charges against Kuchik and claimed that Chitra forced her to file a lawsuit against Kuchik. She also claimed that Chitra forced her to submit a suicide note to the media. Chitra felt betrayed and denied the accusations, saying:
The victims of the Raghunath Kuchik case are now hearing the accusations against me…it actually feels bad, but that’s okay. Having stood with the victim since February when no one helped her, but today I am happy that everyone has united against me… I am ready to answer all inquiries. “
Later, Chitra was also accused of defaming Kuchik, after which Kuchik’s daughter filed an FIR against her.

In July 2022, a video of BJP leader Nana Patole went viral on social media. In the video, he choked a woman in a hotel. Chitra retweeted his video on social media and arranged a press conference to talk about the matter, saying:

Chitra feuds with Urfi Javed
On January 1, 2023, Chitra lodged a police complaint against social media personality Urfi Javed, who had stirred up controversy for wearing scantily clad clothes. She wrote on Twitter,
