Survivor 46 Premiere: Castaways Get Muddy — and Someone Quits a Challenge — as New Season Kicks Off

This week on Survivedpersonalities clashed, alliances formed and a castaway became the first boot after the first tribal council of season 46.

The premiere episode, titled “Legends Are Made Here,” highlighted the divisions over the orange Nami tribe — with data analyst Venus feeling offended when actor Tevin called her “princess” and science teacher Hunter annoyed by fellow teacher Soda’s singing.

With tensions rising, Tevin and Hunter teamed up and called themselves “The Andy Griffith Alliance.” Meanwhile, Soda has formed a female bond with Venus, who viewers and her fellow tribesmen see as the new Parvati Shallow, one of the most beloved players in Survived history.

All of this happened after Nami won the first prize challenge, winning a machete, pot, and flint, all vital for building shelter, cooking food, and starting a fire.

Meanwhile, the green Siga tribe finished second and had to choose whether they wanted to compete in a “smart” challenge or a “sweat” challenge to earn those camp supplies again. Siga chose the puzzle, leaving the losing purple Yan tribe to compete in the physical task.

Charlie and Ben from Sig failed to complete their word puzzle challenge, but the tribe later saw an all-girl alliance form with Jem, Moriah and Maria recruiting Charlie to join them to become “Charlie’s Angels”.

Parent coach Maria also bonded with college coach Tim over being parents, saying she’ll be “driving this game in her van.”

The breakup came during a sweaty challenge when athletic real estate agent Q and slot machine salesman Jelinsky attempted to fill buckets with small holes in the side with ocean water and carry them across the beach to fill larger containers before all the water ran out.

With plenty of time left in the hourglass challenge, Jelinsky gave up and threw the hourglass in defeat. These actions made Q question the tenacity of his supplements under pressure.

Jelinsky’s decision-making abilities are also questioned later in the episode — episode 662 in the Survivedof history — when he, Tevin and Maria represented their tribes on the ever-risky journey of gaining or losing a vote.

Jelinsky quickly gave up as he lied and lost his voice during the truth/lie challenge, surprising Tevin, Maria, and his fellow Yana tribesmen.

Jelinsky’s losing streak continued in the immunity challenge as Yana lost, sending six tribesmen to tribal council. However, artist Tiffany was thrilled that her group was lost as she found a Beware perk that required her tribe to lose an immunity challenge in order to obtain a key that would open a box with an immunity idol inside.

Because Jelinsky made a bad impression, he became the first contestant voted for Survivors 46 after Jeff Probst tallied the unanimous votes against him and extinguished his torch in Fiji.

Nervous software engineer Jess, who was considered for elimination, now seems ready for a redemptive story about overcoming her anxieties.

The season resumes on March 6 with another two-hour episode — when the early alliances of the green and orange tribes can take the stage — followed by 90-minute episodes each week after that.

Survived season 46 airs Wednesdays at 8:00 PM ET/PT on CBS.
