Choi Jung-hoon Apologized For The Band’s Behavior During The 2022 Incheon Rock Festival

Choi Jung-hoon, currently an active member of the South Korean indie rock band JANNABI, officially apologized for the band’s behavior during the Incheon Pentaport Rock Festival on August 6, 2022. On August 7, the singer apologized to the other artists and their fans for the inconvenience caused by his “careless statements”.

The band member was caught in a controversy over his behavior, and many accused him of being mean to other performers. In response, the Take My Hand singer apologized and promised that the band would be more careful in choosing the right words to express their message in the future:

“Standing on a dream stage in front of a fantastic audience, we couldn’t contain our enthusiasm and made other bands and fans uncomfortable with reckless remarks.” We didn’t intend it that way, but we didn’t understand that it could be interpreted that way. We will make sure that this mistake does not happen again in the future. Thanks for coming!”

What did JANNABI’s Choi Jung-hoon say during Pentaport Rock Festival 2022?

JANNABI, a prominent indie rock band, is one of several acts to appear at the Incheon Pentaport Rock Festival 2022. The festival lineup includes Nell, Vampire Weekend, JAURIM, Japanese Breakfast and more. The headliner of the festival, the American rock band Vampire Weekend, was supposed to perform after JANNABI. Everything was fine until the singer remembered the group’s humble beginnings, and then everything went downhill. Choi Jung-hoon was quoted as saying:

“We started as Pentaport’s Super Newbies in 2017 and were first on the smallest stage.” But, step by step, we got here. The obstacle was not far… We have no idea who the next band will be… Everyone, please go home. We’re going to perform ‘Come Back Home,’ our song, and then we’re going to go.”

Some even claimed that JANNABI played an unscheduled encore, causing Vampire Weekend to be delayed. JANNABI currently consists of three people. However, the band’s guitarist, Kim Do-Hyung, enlisted in the military in June 2020, while bassist, Jang Kyung-Joon, enlisted in January 2021. Choi Jung-hoon, the band’s lead vocalist, continues to promote the band through his solo efforts.

After two years, the 2022 Pentaport Rock Festival reopened with the presence of a member of BTS.

Incheon Pentaport Rock Festival is one of the biggest rock events in South Korea. Although it includes folk and emo music, it mainly concentrates on rock and electronic music. This year’s event also had a member of BTS in the crowd.

He also shared a photo with alternative K-pop group Balming Tiger, who is good friends with the BTS frontman.
