With a 26 percent critical and 55 percent audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes, the film is not one of Evans’ most acclaimed or well-received films, which made him wonder if people “have outgrown those kinds of movies,” he said. GQ in a new interview conducted before the Hollywood actors’ strike.
The Apple TV+ movie, released in April, follows Cole (Evans), who follows Sadie (Ana de Armas) to London when she ghosts him after a date, only to discover she’s a CIA agent — and the pair embark on a a dangerous joint adventure.

“Wittyto me, it felt like a movie I grew up watching, a movie that maybe we don’t see very often anymore,” Evans, 42, said. GQ. “And the question is whether the audience has outgrown these types of films.”

When asked if this issue arose when he signed the project or when it was announced, The Knives out the star said, “Both.”
“I didn’t think the audience had grown out of it before, and I still don’t think it has, despite the fact, I mean, technically I think we were OK … in terms of ratings,” he said.
He said that while “the critics didn’t like” the film, “that’s more the film’s fault than the audience’s appetite.”
“I think the appetite is there, if it’s done right,” he told the magazine, adding: “We could have done better.”

No matter what WittyDue to the lackluster response, Evans has high hopes for his upcoming projects Pain Hustlerswith him and Emily Blunt in the role of a drug salesman who pushes opioids, and Redholiday action comedy starring Dwayne Johnson.
“I was excited to play that role because it was a real character,” he said GQ from Pain Hustlers.
Regarding Red? Evans “was just looking for a Christmas movie his whole career.”

Evans’ Witty costar and movie love de Armas, 35 — who first shared the screen with the actor in 2019. Knives out — joked that the Apple TV+ movie was the first time they “liked each other” on screen.
“It was nice, with this movie, we were finally able to communicate in a more playful, teasing way,” Evans told PEOPLE in April. “IN Knives out, we are obviously opponents. Another movie, the gray manwe had nothing together.”
“So this was fun to get back and explore that kind of film,” he added.

The Blonde Starr said it was especially interesting to play the action star alongside Evans, who is best known for his role as Captain America in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
“I thought it was very refreshing and new and unexpected for people to see Chris in this position of not being the one in control and not being strong and saving the day,” de Armas said. “It was a lot of fun for me – a lot of work and a lot of work, but it was really cool.”
Evans reprized his role, saying, “That’s what I loved about the movie. It’s so much fun to be the eyes of the audience and react as they would – or at least I guess most of the audience would, certainly as I would – to panic and be relatively inept.”
“The more human you answer, the funnier,” he added.
