Chris Pratt's Former Stunt Double Tony McFarr Dead at 47

Tony McFarr, a Hollywood stuntman who worked as Chris Pratt’s understudy in Jurassic World movies and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, died. He was 47 years old.

McFarr was found dead on Monday, May 13, the Orange County Florida Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed to PEOPLE. Although the examination has already been carried out, the cause of death remains pending the results of the toxicology report.

TMZ first reported McFarr’s death, noting that his mother, Donna, said he died unexpectedly at his home just outside of Orlando.

IMDb acknowledges that McFarr worked as a stuntman on a total of 60 productions between 2011 and 2022; he worked as a double on Bones and blockbusters like those from 2014 Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 before he first linked up with Pratt, 44, on set in 2015 Jurassic World.

McFarr appeared as Pratt’s understudy in his 2016 film Passengers, in 2017 Guardians of the Galaxy continuation in 2018 Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. He also worked on Marvel movies like Captain America: Civil War and The ant man and the wasp and additionally served as Jon Hamm’s understudy in the 2018 comedy To mark.

Pratt shared a photo of McFarr in costume as his character Star-Lord on Guardians of the Galaxy posted back in 2016 on Instagram.

In the announcement, he stated that the filming of the second film of the trilogy has been completed. “Here’s me and my stuntman Tony McFarr (also Tommy Harper, stunt coordinator and our first AD Lars Winther) on set,” Pratt wrote in the caption. “I’ve been working with Tony ever since Jurassic World. I love you my friend! Happy wrapping!”

McFarr was also credited as an actor in six roles between 2007 and 2016 in episodes of the series Notice of burning, One Tree Hill, Military women, Graceland and CBS MacGyver reboot of the series, as well as the 2016 film Cell. His latest Hollywood credits come for stunt work in 2021 The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It.
