Chris Young's Attorney Demands TABC 'Drop the Charges' Against Singer and 'Apologize' for Arrest

Earlier this week, footage was released of Young being shoved by a TABC agent who later arrested the country star on charges including assault

Chris Young’s attorney is seeking justice for the country singer following his arrest at a Nashville bar earlier this week.

After the “Aw Naw” singer, 38, was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct, assault on a police officer and resisting arrest following an altercation at the DawgHouse Saloon on Monday, video obtained by PEOPLE the next day shows Young being pushed by the Tennessee Liquor Commission agent before he was taken into custody.

Young’s attorney, Bill Ramsey, tells PEOPLE in a statement, “What happened to my client Chris Young at a bar in Nashville on Monday night was wrong and he should not have been arrested and charged in the first place.”

Ramsey continues, “In light of the video evidence, Tennessee ABC must drop the charges and apologize for the physical, emotional and professional harm caused to my client.”

In the video, Young is seen reaching out to a TABC agent, who reacts by shoving the musician, causing him to lose his footing and fall backwards over a table and chair. The “Raised on Country” singer then stands up, raises his hands and backs away. He was arrested shortly after.

An arrest affidavit obtained by PEOPLE claims the country star first spoke with TABC agents at the Tin Roof bar, where officers checked his ID, and then worked with bar staff to check the establishment’s ABC cards, at which point Young started recording the moment.

The agents then went to the DawgHouse Saloon bar next door, and Young and several friends allegedly followed them and spoke with staff. As the TABC agents tried to exit the location, Young reached out and, according to the affidavit, “struck” one of them on the shoulder.

Unaware of Young’s identity, the agent pushed the singer away and another bar patron intervened, the affidavit said. The “Drinkin’ Me Lonely” singer then reportedly “started yelling and screaming,” refusing to follow the instructions of the agent who was speaking to him. However, footage of Young’s arrest obtained by PEOPLE shows the singer calmly asking for clarification.

After his arrest, Young was taken into custody and later released on $250 bail for disorderly conduct, $1,000 for resisting arrest and $1,250 for assault. He is scheduled to appear in court on February 16.

Young will release his new album, Young love and Saturday nights, March 22.
