Sofia Vergara Shuts Down Kelly Clarkson’s Assumption Her Griselda Transformation Is ‘Slight’: ‘Shut Up!’

Sofia Vergara wants viewers to know that it took a lot of work (and prosthetics) to transform into Griselda Blanco for her upcoming Netflix series.

On Wednesday, The Kelly Clarkson Show he shared the clip on TikTok Modern family alum, 51, passionately explained to the TV presenter, 41, that preparing for the role of “The Godmother of Cocaine” was not easy.

“This is amazing… I feel like they just changed your nose or something,” Clarkson said during the broadcast.

“What?” replied a surprised Vergara.

As American Idol the winner tried to explain her point of view, Vergara interjected: “Are you crazy?”

“Whatever they’ve done seems minor,” the presenter added before being interrupted again.

“No Kelly, it’s been hours,” he said American talent said the judge as she and the audience laughed. Still, the more Clarkson tried to point out the small changes in Vergara’s appearance, the more Wild Card the actress retorted.

Both ladies laughed as Vergara went on to detail the process of becoming Blanco for her upcoming Netflix limited series Griseldawhich debuts on Thursday.

“They did a lot to me! It was the teeth. It was a wig. It was the nose. It was plastic from here to here,” she continued as a pre-recorded video clip played, showing the hair and makeup process from Vergara’s on-set trailer.

Clarkson tried to clarify her comments, adding that the hair and makeup artists “did such a good job of making it look flawless.”

At the red carpet premiere of Griselda in Miami on Tuesday, Vergara spoke exclusively to PEOPLE about how she went from being a lovable comedienne on the sitcom to playing the leader of a notorious cartel linked to dozens of deaths.

There was a lot of work, there was a lot of preparation, she explained. “I had to really explore what it meant to be a woman in that era. A mother, a Colombian woman… who turned into this monster. Well, it was a really difficult task for me to understand that.”

Vergara, however, said she was able to find similarities between herself and the Medellín cartel boss to bring the project to life.

“We are both Colombian, we are both immigrants, we are both mothers, we are both women,” he adds. “So I bonded with her a lot.”

Griselda he created Narcos and Narcos: Mexico showrunner Eric Newman, and the director is Andrés Baiz. Not only does Vergara play the title character, but she also appears alongside Latin music star Carolina Giraldo (aka Karol G) — who guest stars as Carla, one of the queenpin’s most trusted confidantes.

Other actors in the series include Alberto Guerra as Dario Sepúlveda, Christian Tappan as Arturo Mesa, Martín Rodríguez as Rivi Ayala, Juliana Aidén Martinez as June Hawkins and Vanessa Ferlito as Carmen Gutiérrez.
