Shoppers from supermarkets including Aldi, Sainsbury’s and Asda all complained ahead of Christmas dinner cooking.
People who bought their turkeys this week were devastated to find them in a disgusting state days after bringing them home.
With the traditional festive bird being used on dates much longer than December 25, it has become a big disappointment for many.
Shoppers took to social media to vent their frustrations and “ruined Christmas”.
One Asda customer posted a picture of his turkey which was visibly spoiled and inedible.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), one user (@bropony19942) wrote to the supermarket’s service team about the horrors she experienced.
“This bought earlier for Christmas has officially been destroyed and is broken,” she said.
“It smells absolutely disgusting. It’s shocking how you can sell something that’s gone bad and then leave people wondering where they’re going to get another turkey with limited time left.”
Another shopper named Sarah was also left panicking on Christmas Eve after checking her turkey she bought from Sainsbury’s earlier this week.
She said: “@sainsbury’s Just checked my turkey I brought in on the 20th (dated the 27th!) and it’s rancid and slimy!!!!
“I almost threw up from the smell!!! Absolutely disgusting!!!!!!!”
A third person, who bought theirs from Aldi, also couldn’t believe what they were dealing with.
Kate Crossland said: “@AldiUK so thanks just took the fresh turkey out of the prep fridge and it’s gone!! Christmas dinner ruined!!”
A member of Aldi’s social media team responded to the complaint, saying they were “very sorry to hear this” and assured Kate that they would “help” resolve the issue.
However, supermarkets have advised that this is an industry-wide problem and if customers do not store their turkey as specified in the product instructions, it can result in product deterioration.
The Sun has contacted Asda, Sainsbury’s and Aldi for comment.
Last year, unlucky Morrisons and Sainsbury’s shoppers also had their Christmas dinner ruined by disgusting turkeys.
One person even said they had no choice but to settle for beans on toast after discovering the “disconnected” bird.
Another said they cut their turkey open to “slimy skin with yellow spots” and that it “stinks.”
