CHRISTMAS was “ruined” after “horrified” customers discovered that their supermarket turkeys were “spoiled” and “rancid”.
As families across the country prepare to sit down to festive dinners, some have been left appalled by the state they bought the supermarket in.

Upset customers claim they shopped at one of the three main brands, Sainsbury’s, Tesco and Lidl.
Many upset customers took to social media to express their disappointment.
One user on Xu, formerly known as Twitter, said: “And the award for ruining Christmas goes to @sainsburys for selling my mum a turkey which is good and really bad.”
Another wrote: “Oh they delivered a rotten turkey???”
Mum said: “Thanks @sainsburys, thanks for nothing. I opened my turkey this morning to cook and it’s OFF! Stinks to heaven.
“No Christmas dinner for us today…”
Someone else said: “Well done, Sainsbury’s Christmas is officially ruined!
“I just took the turkey out of the fridge and it’s spoiled! It smells so bad I can’t believe you can sell this? #christmasruined.”
The title was released alongside pictures of a turkey that looked ominously dark in some places.
According to the label, the £14.36 main course should have offered enough for seven portions and be safe to eat until December 27.
A spokesperson for the online platform quickly responded.
Karen replied, “Hi. Thanks for getting in touch. I’m sorry there’s a problem with your turkey. Can you tell me if this was store bought or online? I’ll check for you. Thanks, Karen.”

Another customer made a plea to the same supermarket brand after their £13.10 turkey crown was “gone”.
They said: “@sainsburys thanks for ruining Christmas. I bought this turkey crown YESTERDAY from your Sury Basin store in Kingston upon Thames. Straight home to our fridge.
“We’re opening tonight to get ready for tomorrow and it broke. It didn’t smell good. Please tell me how you’re going to fix this for us.”
Tesco customers also discovered what a disaster happened on the day of holiday cheer.
One user commented: “The turkey is off! Guess it’s the pizza. Hoping no complaints, full refund for Christmas Day.”
Another take: “Looks like I’m guessing the cooking time for my @Tesco turkey today as their packs don’t have the correct weight or cooking time printed on the front like they normally do.
“The back of the package says the cooking time refers to the front…it’s fun to weigh the turkey on the little kitchen scales! Merry Christmas!”
It seems Lidl didn’t get away unscathed after one customer described their turkey as “rancid”.
They continued: “Just a warning as I’d hate for anyone to open theirs on Christmas morning and not have any turkey shops open. I just went to wash and marinate my turkey ready for Wednesday and it was completely BURNING inside! It smells awful and the meat is turned green!
“Bought fresh from Lidl Woodhouse Lane on Friday, dated 26th December and has been stored in the back of my fridge since I bought it so there’s absolutely no reason it shouldn’t be there. I think buying fresh would be better than frozen too this year.”
The Sun has approached Lidl and Tesco for comment.
A Sainsbury’s spokesman said: “We contact a very small number of customers to let them know how sorry they are that they received a turkey that does not meet our usual high standards, and we are investigating these cases.”
