Sam Neill sips Bloody Marys with ‘Fallen’ Cillian Murphy to celebrate Oscar win: ‘So deserved’
Murphy comes after winning the Oscar for Best Actor, his first Academy Award, earlier this year for his portrayal of physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer in Christopher Nolan’s epic Oppenheimer.
In his acceptance speech, Murphy thanked longtime collaborator Nolan, 54, the Academy and others, admitting he felt “a little overwhelmed” by the honor.
“It’s been the craziest, most exciting, most creatively satisfying journey you’ve taken me on in 20 years. I owe you more than I can say,” he continued. “Thank you very much [to] every single crew member, every single cast member, on and on Oppenheimer; you brought me out. All my fellow nominees, I continue to be in awe of you. Truly.”
The actor then thanked his “amazing team” and family, including wife of 20 years his junior Yvonne McGuinness and their teenage sons Malachy and Aran, who were in the audience.
“I love you so much and I’m a very proud Irishman standing here tonight,” Murphy said.
Netflix’s Peaky Blinders the film, made in collaboration with BBC Film, does not yet have a release date.
