Cindy Busby and Christopher Russell Tease Their Reunion on When Hope Calls Season 2: 'They Might Even Kiss'

Hallmark Channel stars Cindy Busby and Christopher Russell are reuniting for another on-screen romance!

The cast spoke to fans at Christmas Con 2024 in Edison, NJ earlier in December. During the panel discussion, the pair — who have previously worked together on several projects — opened up about joining the second season of the historical romance series When hope callswhich will premiere in January on the Great American Family network.

“There’s going to be some family-oriented fun, there’s going to be a lot of heart, and let me tell you, there’s going to be some romance,” Russell, 41, teased of the upcoming season. “Some people will fall in love, maybe even kiss, I don’t know.”

And while Busby, 41 – who plays Nora in the new season – said she was delighted to be reunited with her former co-star Russell, she revealed they “didn’t know this was going to happen”.

“Yeah, I don’t know if any of you knew that Cindy and I worked together before,” Russell added with a laugh. “We shot four films together. And when—I’ll just tell my side of it—when I was offered the role of the new Mountie in town [in When Hope Calls season 2]I think I accidentally BCC’d the email chain and I shouldn’t have. And I saw that Cindy Busby was also going to be part of the show. And that was it. I said, ‘You better talk me into it.’ ”

“We hit it off,” Busby chimed in, adding that the two “manifested” working on the show together.

As for whether Russell will have a shirtless scene this season?

“Listen, I fought and fought,” Busby joked to the crowd. “I fought for it. I’m on your side, everyone. All right? You will have [to] tune in to find out, but let me tell you, that Mountie jacket is tight. it’s tight. You don’t need him to take it off. You can see everything from the jacket.”

Busby also praised everyone involved in the upcoming project, saying, “We just finished the day before Thanksgiving, so yeah, we’re done with the second season, and it’s going to premiere in 2025. And I have to say, it was such a dream to do that show and be a part of it. of the old work. Honestly, every single person in the cast and crew was incredibly talented and gave it their all and their hearts.”

From the sounds of it, fans are going to have a blast this season. “And the stories are amazing, and there’s action, and there’s heart and working with this guy again,” Busby continued, gesturing to Russell.

When hope calls — a spinoff series for the Hallmark show When the heart calls — originally premiered in 2019 and starred Lori Loughlin, Morgan Kohan and Jocelyn Hudon. The series then released two holiday-themed episodes at GAF 2021, and in September it was announced that more episodes featuring a mostly new cast would be released at GAF 2025. In addition to Busby and Russell, the second season stars Kohan, Nick Bateman, Wendy Crewson and Hanneke Talbot.
