The following is a statement issued by Cindy Williams’ children following her death:
“The passing of our kind, hilarious mother, Cindy Williams, has brought us insurmountable sadness that could never truly be expressed,” the statement read. “Knowing and loving her has been a joy and a privilege for us.” She was one of a kind, beautiful, and generous, with a fantastic sense of humour and a sparkling attitude that everyone adored.”

Williams is most known for her role as Shirley Feeney on the Disney-owned ABC sitcom Happy Days spinoff Laverne & Shirley, which starred Shirley Feeney and libertine Laverne DeFazio. On January 26, 1976, the television show premiered at the top of the ratings. In contrast to Penny Marshall’s Laverne, which was about a couple of roommates who worked at a Milwaukee bottling business in the 1950s and 1960s, William’s character was the strict Shirley Feeney.
In 1978, Williams was nominated for a Golden Globe for best actress in a comedy series for her role on Laverne & Shirley.

The show also aired on Tuesdays, following Happy Days—the show that started it all when Williams was hired by Garry Marshall for the popular sitcom—Happy Days at 8:30 p.m., and when it did, according to the Hollywood Reporter, it “went on to become the highest-rated series for the 1977-78 and 1978-79 seasons.” The actress is well renowned for her roles in George Lucas’ 1973 film American Graffiti and Francis Ford Coppola’s 1974 film The Conversation.
