And the moment she left the camp, the first person she called was her football player husband, Wayne.

Coleen said Wayne told her how proud he was of her as they enjoyed their first phone conversation after not speaking for weeks while she was out in the jungle.

She added: “I talked to him as soon as I got into the car.

“Obviously when you get out, everything is chaotic.

“Obviously my mum, dad and two younger kids were there, then Wayne and my older two at home.

“It was more difficult for them to leave school.

“They are older, it is more serious.

“So we made the decision to keep them in school.

“Kid, it’s obviously easier.

“They brought the business with them.”

Coleen continued: “As soon as I got out I phoned home.

“Everyone had a gathering at the house and watched it together.

“I have friends and family and children.

“They said they weren’t going to school tomorrow because mom was at the finals.

“I don’t know what the school will say about that, but, you know, they obviously didn’t even make it to Australia so maybe they deserve a day off.

“Wayne just said how proud he was.

“In the letter I got he said he’d never missed me so much – and I can understand that because we haven’t spoken.

“We’ve been apart for weeks and weeks, but we talk several times a day, we FaceTime.

“So it was difficult not having that communication.

“Obviously if something drastic happened, I’d like to think they would have told me.

“But I’m not up to date with the kids’ school and soccer… I’m so involved in all that at home.

“It was difficult.”

I’m A Celebrity runner-up Coleen also says she thought about giving up in the first week as she sobbed over her children at camp.

In scenes not shown on TV, she cried looking at her luxury item – a pillow with a picture of her four sons and football legend husband Wayne.

But her tough nature came through and helped her through to Sunday’s final, when she lost to McFly’s Danny Jones by just over ten per cent of the 10 million votes.

Coleen, 38, said yesterday: “That first week, I woke up one morning and apparently the pillow I’d been sleeping on had been given away.

“I looked over and saw Wayne and the kids and I cried a little bit and thought, ‘I don’t know if I can go all this way.’ And that was only the first week.

“But then I soon snapped up and went to wash the dishes and gather wood and do whatever I had to do and it was fine. I got on with it.”

She added: “I’m quite strong-minded.

“Even though I’m quiet, I struggle with things.

“I just think, ‘Come on, Coleen, you said you were going to do it, so just do it’. I snap out of everything really quickly.”

Coleen was in tears again when her two youngest boys, eight-year-old Kit and Cass, six, surprised her at an Aussie camp with her mum Colette McLoughlin, 62, last week.

But Plymouth Argyle boss Wayne has been cheering her on from home amid his busy fixture list, while her eldest boys – Kai, 15, and Klay, 11 – also stayed in Cheshire.
